First we've got "The Rogues" series, soon there will be "The Cleric", "The Fighters" and "The Wizards" series. And what about "The Bards", "The Druids" and "The Paladins"??? Any series about them?

Elaine did just confirm in her scroll on these boards that there will be a series on bards, yes. |

It was my understanding that there would only be four classes series, with at least one novel in the group featuring a related class. The Yellow Silk used a bard, and at least one of the Fighters books will have a barbarian. Not sure about druids, and I'm not privy to the FR editors' discussions, so there very well could be future series planned for all eleven classes. Plus, Elaine did just mention something about an upcoming Bards series. |

I asked my editor at WotC about calling dibs on a slot in the Paladins series (because I've got an idea for such a book) only to be informed that there are no plans for such a series at present. |

I think going any further with the classes would be a bit overkill. The titles of the series arent exactly inspiringa and would be more suited to a standard D&D novel line. After all, all FR novels feature characters of a certain class so calling the series trilogy by the class name is a bit bland. |

So maybe you can submit it anyway? I'd like to see some more work on paladins as something other than a bunch of evil-killing stats. |

It surprised me, but I thought the Tomb of Horrors novelization didn't do too bad a job on depicting the paladin as something other than righteous. Don't take this as an endorsement to buy the book, however. |

Bookwyrm: You're right, of course. Just because there isn't going to be a FR series entitled The Paladins, that doesn't mean there can't be more FR novels that happen to focus on paladins. So I may indeed do that particular book by and by. But maybe not for a while. First I've got The Year of Rogue Dragons trilogy to finish, and after that, WotC may have another topic they want me to tackle. Even if they give me carte blanche to develop any idea I want, I'm not absolutely sure I'll go with the paladin concept. I have other ideas that interest me, also. The paladin thing could be pretty cool, though, and I do hope to get to it by and by. |

If they do give you carte blanche and you do decide to do a Paladin story, one of those Kingdoms in the bottom Right corner of the Realms is a Kingdom of Knights/Paladins and very little has been written about it |

Thanks for the tip, Dargoth. I appreciate it. That paticular area's not right for the specific plot I've got in mind, though. |

I agree, a paladin novel would be great, but I'd like to see something other than the usual human paladin or the now apparently popular reformed monster-type paladin (like half-orcs, gnolls, or whatever. Though I am a big fan of Dragonbait!). How about an elven, dwarven, or even halfling paladin? How do their cultures deal with paladin-hood? Attitude, fighting style, and so on. I think this might provide an interesting alternate view to the paladin class in the novel medium. Hmmmmm, on second thought maybe I should keep these ideas to myself... |

How 'bout monks or barbarians? Though I think barbarians were already done in Beyond the High Road and with Wulfgar and Fyodor running around, I'm not too sure about it, now.
Rangers would be good, but there's Drizzt. But maybe they could have something on Dove Falconhand, my mentor, or perhaps myself. :)
Also, I do agree that they should have something on paladins, though it might be a bit redundant.
Also, I think I am partially against including a series focusing around each and every class, because once WotC starts putting out new series that have nothing to do with any classes in particular, but say, the main character's a druid, someone might say, "Well, I've already read a whole series about druids and don't really wanna see anymore of them." That would be a major setback for WotC and that's probably why they're not planning on doing a series for each class. |
