does anyone have a list of ed greenwood's stories featuring elminster in chronological order by setting? i would be eternally grateful if anyone shared this with me, because i'm a little confused on what to read next. thanks

Well, I'm reading about Elminster right now myself. As far as I know the order goes as
Elminster: The making of a mage
Elminster in Myth Drannor
Temptation of Elminster
Elminster in Hell
Elminster's Daughter
That's how it goes. I'm sure Elminster makes appearance in many other books, but can't help you with that, sorry. |

| yea i read making of a mage, in myth drannnor, and the temptation, and i just picked up in hell....but hes in the avatar series's, the harpers series, and the shandril saga...plus theres the cormyr stuff and the netherel stuff. so much to read. only problem is i cant find very much of it |

| hurm, i would have to dig them out from the bookcase in the room tomorrow to see the exact date but i do know they are before Elminster in hell. however in the books Elminster isn't the main character but makes appearances in them and helps guide the characters, Shadow of the Avatar series is no longer in print, at least in the uS that i have seen might try used book stores or ebay maybe even overstock.com. the shadril saga is still in print, the large black books. i believe the shadow of the avatar series takes place during the time of troubles and shows elminster without his magic, it is worth tracking down. |

a half price books is opening near my house soon, and i plan to run them dry the first week they're open. barnes & noble is just so limited, even the large stores, and in texas, books are pretty low priority, it's particularly hard to find fantasy down here. anyway, thanks again |

I believe that the events featuring Elminster in Return of the Archwizards Trilogy lead on to Elminster in Hell. I havent read EiH myself (only the RotAW trilogy) so cant clarify that. |

You are right about that Rad...
Without giving too much away, I will simply say that during a certain portion of the novel The Summoning, it makes a clear reference that leads readers into the events detailed in Elminster in Hell.

I haven't read "The Summoning". Is this novel somehow connected with "Elminster in Hell" or it just describes the same events??
And what about Spellfire and Hand of Fire?? They are also about Elminster i think (but i haven't read them too) |

The shandril saga is based on a waif named Shadril that elminster is helping guide and protect as well, I haven’t yet had the time to read the third book but read the first too, Elminster is just a side character in them. Shadows of the avatar feature him as a main character along with the rangers three. As for the return of the archwizards, at the end of one of the books it sets up elminster in hell but it is just a single chapter I believe, overall it is the other chosen featured in those books.
I would recommend finding shadows of the avatar series it has some unguarded moments with elminster and explains a little of his past as well as the effect of living for so long. |

The Summoning is the first book in The Return of the Archwizards series. As others have stated, an event takes place involving Elminster within The Summoning that sets up the plot for Elminster in Hell. The two books do not cover the same events. |

| yesterday i picked up books 1 and 2 of the return of the avatar series and i'm having the first two of the shanrdil saga shipped in to my local library. no luck finding the return of the archwizards series yet though |

| I have never had to use a credit card online to buy books. They're are enough stores that will take a personal check or postal money order if you e-mail them first. Lots of times, no shipping and handling charges on orders over $50.00 either :) |

That's right. Amazon will let you send them a check or at least they would a few years ago. |
