Greetings ladies and gents!
So I reinstalled the 2003 Neverwinter Nights game (and the 2 expansions) onto the computer and started up a new game. Man is this still fun as hell. But it also got me to thinking of how fun this story would be as a pen-and-paper campaign. So I looked around and no one seems to have converted it to that format.
After discussing a possible campaign with my group they were surprisingly excited to do it, and the census was to keep along with the 3.5 D&D system (as opposed to going an easier 4e or 5e route). So we decided to make it more like the game in terms of character creation. Here's what we have so far:
Ability scores: 30 point-buy
Races: just Player's Handbook but with sub-races.
Classes: Just Players Handbook classes though variants and alternative class features are fine.
Prestige Classes: DMG ones, the Pale Master, and any FR-specific one. Exceptions happen but thr reasoning needs to be there.
Feats: generally open, not restricted
Spells: start with only PHB but will progress into Spell Compendium aND other books.
Region: determines extra starting gear, a free bonus regional feat, and bonus languages.
Starting gear and hit points: gold is maxed as is hit points. Haven't decided if they'll roll for HP at each level, take max, or average yet.
So has anyone else tried to run the Neverwinter Nights plot and game with pen and paper? If so what edition? Suggestions on what we've got so far? Criticisms? Let me know!
