I have ventured in The Forgotten Realms since the late 80s. I have always loved the great many spells that came with the Dragon mags and expansions as The Magister and so on. Are those days gone? Same goes for the detailed world of Toril. Really miss Volo's Guide (I have seen the guide to Monsters) who described every inn in great detail.. I am well aware that back in those days tsr released way too much and that the quantity was prefered to quality but I miss some releases for our magic World.

Yup. By now, the epitome of corporate creativity is "hurrr, take Fireball, make it Sonic (gasp)". So? Why not make yours? Or convert? Or simply refrain from using teletubbified editions and play what you like?

The 2e spells are really, really easy to convert to 5e, if that's what you're playing. The official coversion document and WotC put out is helpful, and there was a fan made one that makes a nice cross examination if you want to really make sure you've got it. I'll see if I can find the fan one when I get home. The Official guide should come up in a Google Search. |

A lot of spells are being revamped for 5e from older editions on DMs Guild, and you can usually pick them up on the cheap. However, that being said, they're not as well defined or reviewed. Also, a lot of old spells honestly weren't all that special.. they just upped the damage or changed the damage type based on spell level, which 5e kind of lets you do now by raising a spells level (though many spells its not really worth raising the level unless you can do it for free somehow.. like warlocks where their spell level is set). This all being said, I know that DMs Guild can be daunting, so I'll first plug my own entry, and then point out the other entries that I've found that were good. Note, as with anything, review them first before adding to your game (and if you see anything wrong with mine, let me know). If you buy my complete red book of spell strategy, I've combined the listing of most of the spell names from all of the below into one listing with special font symbols beside the entries to easily identify what's what (i.e. a symbol of Savras for the divination spell collection, a genie's lamp for the Zakharan spells, a fire for the stuff from the burning tome, a grey skull for the collection of necromancy spells, a black skull and crossbones for the demon summoning spells, a dancing fire more similar to the original Thayan symbol for the Unapproachable east spell collection, etc....)
