Finished "Insurrection" today, and will start "Condemnation". I like the story so far and the characters. At last "real" dark elves and not chaotic good bores with scimitars .

Finished The Best of the Realms: the Stories of Ed Greenwood. Was definitely worth buying if any of you have been hesitating about this one. Enough new material to make it worth your while.
On to: Realms of the Arcane (been many years since I read this anthology). |

I'm nearly finished with the non-FR books I'm reading at the moment. I'm going to give Stardeep a shot next. I've really got to start working through my FR backlog. |

| I finished Stardeep and Crypt of the Moaning Diamond about a month ago. I'm currently plodding through the Realms of War anthology, before tackling The Citadels (all four arrived in the mail last week). Not currently wishing to read anything post-Spellplague, I shall get (and read) the Erevis Cale Trilogy next, after which my support of Realms novels may dwindle, as a lot of stuff I am interested in is out of print. |

I'm rereading The Ring of Winter, right now. I will step away from the Realms with the next book (Good Omens, I'm thinking), and then get back to the Arilyn and Danilo books, like I was planning.
Of course, this all depends on how much time I can get away from Lego Indiana Jones, which I just got yesterday. |

Good choice. Pratchett and Gaiman definitely work well together.

Good luck with that. It can become quite addicative. Though, I found it wasn't as fun as both of the Lego Star Wars games.
Lego Batman is the one I'm really waiting for. |

I've read it before, but I think it's been about a year and a half... It is a fun one.

Lego Batman is the one I'm really waiting for.
Well, I've only beat the first two levels, but I'm enjoying it, thus far. I was goofing off earlier and looked up some of the unlock codes, and then discovered that you don't have to pay for the parcels, unlike the red bricks in Lego Star Wars: The Classic Trilogy (I've not played the other one). After turning on all the Treasure multiplier blocks (In Lego Star Wars, I never had the patience to get enough to unlock them all) and playing a level like that, I don't think I'll do it again. Previously, I cleared the level with 50,000 studs; this time, without trying, I cleared it with 177 million! And I was just going back thru to find the one treasure chest I'd missed!
Lego Batman does look like fun... I just hope it's available for the PC. Before the fire, I had a lot of older consoles (Sego, NES, Super NES, Playstation, and the GameCube). Because of Lego Star Wars and Mario Kart, only the GameCube survived -- and no one is doing games for it anymore. I had to get Lego Indy for the PC, and a controller, too, to be able to play it.
Heh... My fiancée knows that for stuff for the house, I'm only interested in new furniture, shelves for the garage, and getting the hot tub fixed. So Lego Indiana Jones, the controller, and a Spudtrooper all came from wedding gift certificates. I got something I wanted, she blew the rest on house stuff that she wanted, and now we're both happy. |

Lego Batman is the one I'm really waiting for. Building on your derailment, I liked LEGO Indiana Jones as well, but it was short (that is the main reason I did not like it as much as LEGO Star Wars). I too am eagerly awaiting LEGO Batman. Now, maybe we should return to the purpose of this scroll, dear moderators. |

| Just finished the rogues series by reading The Crimson Gold and The Yellow Silk. Enjoyed them both, especially Crimson Gold with all the Thay tidbits and Tazi crossing paths with Szass Tam. Just Picked up Amber and Iron at my half price books for $11 so I think with my 4$(4e) burnout , i will switch universes and read that! |

I was going to start "The Citadels" series last night. But the Clone Wars novelisation appeared on my doorstep yesterday, so I've put off my Realms novels for another few days. |

At the moment I just finished reading my 143rd novel.
For some time I was catching up to the total number of novels but then I had less time for reading and WotC went on it's release spree (with all the new mini series) and I fell behind and farther away from my goal of readin any FR novel out there |

| Read "Bladesinger" last week. It was pretty good, but more of a "High level adventuring party saves Rashemen" novel than "Shield of Weeping Ghosts". I actually preferred Shield, as I loved the Rashemi point of view, and locals dealing with local problems. |

| Recently read Obsidian Ridge and thought it was excellent. So far I have read 3 of the 4 Citadels books and they have all been top-notch. Next up for me on the FR front will be Sheild of the Weeping Ghost. Obsidian Ridge was the 53rd FR novel I have read. |

Have read everything Drizzt's wise up to The Orc King; Jarlaxle-Entreri Trilogy as well.
Just finished Lady Penitent trilogy: pretty amazing. Also did read Thomas Reid Empyrean's first one and Scions of Arrabar trilogy. Looking for Knights of Myth Drannor trilogy next, or Last Mythal maybe. |

Finished Murder in Cormyr. Pick it up if you have a chance, not a bad read featuring small town Cormyr. Finished Murder in Halruaa. Worth reading as well, since I love Halruaa and no enough novels were set there!
Time for a Realms break, going to star vol 2 of the Chronicles of Elric. |

Mmmm... Elric. Lovely. Love 'Stormbringer', though it's been a loooong while since I've read it.
Right. Am currently reading 'Insurrection'. That's not up to date at all, is it?
It's good, though. I like Thomas Reid. His characters are clearly defined, if perhaps a little unsubtle. (I'm thinking particularly of Quenthel here - she seems far too ready to appear miffed in front of Pharaun compared to how she's portrayed in 'Dissolution'.) That said, the story's getting nicely engrossing now (page 103 if you're interested) and I find I'm turning pages at a pleasingly swift rate.
I'll let you know how things are progressing in the next 100 pages or so.
Cheers!

Halfway through City of Splendors. It's taking longer to read because 1. More pages than most other novels 2. I'm hitting the gym hard daily so my reading time is cut down |

Started 'Depths of Madness'. It is fab. More considered comment later.
Oh, alright. I'll start now. Fox-in-Twilight is a great character. Capricious, brave, flirtatious. Lovely. Erik's given us a set of characters who are pretty memorable and, in time-honoured fashion, don't get on with each other very much at all. So far so good.
And the setting's good too. He plunges you right into the dungeon with no preamble at all. That means the characters have to figure out where they are at much the same rate the reader does. Throw in the fact that most of the characters have secrets that are occasionally hinted at and you have a very readable piece of work.
At the moment, those train journeys in the morning are flying by. Hurrah! |

I finished The Temptation of Elminster and Sentinelspire, not much more to be said about ToE that hasn't been said, if yo ulike Ed's writing, you'll love it. I really enjoyed Frostfell and "Mercy's Reward" from Realms of War, so for Sentinelspire, I was expecting great things, and I was not disappointed. The characters, the story, the lore, the locations... I loved it all. And let me just say that Sauk was by far my favorite character in the book. I just started on Blackstaff Tower, I was sad to see that this tome, as well as Jaleigh's Mistshore are both set in the distant future of Faerun to which my campaign will never go, but like Swordmage, I'll give them a chance. Which reminds me, I put Swordmage down after a cople dozen pages because I just didn't like it, nothing to do with the timeline advancement. I'm sure I'll pick it back up eventually, but for now it's relegated to the backburner. |

I just began the War of the Spider Queen Series last Thursday and I've finished Dissolution and am half way through Insurrection. Its all in the degrees of evilness. Anyone who would leave his 'friend" in midst of a battle to preserve his own life is twisted but that is the drow way of life.

When you've finished it, let me know what you think of Pharaun's attitude towards saving his 'friends' in 'Insurrection'.
'Insurrection' is a fun book, though. It starts off like one of your basic 'we don't really like one another but we'll learn to work together' group adventures that fantasy novels are particularly good at and then about two-thirds of the way through it turns into The Poseidon Adventure. (With one of those late night movies on Channel 5* thrown in for good measure) Again, I'd be interested in knowing what you think.
Damn. I feel a proper review coming on. It's been a while since I've done one of those...
Regards,
JDD
*Sorry. British TV reference there. Think soft focus nudity and a plot as flimsy as... well... 75% of the outfits worn by most drow females. Apparently. (You'll know what I mean. Most of the aforementioned films are American anyway...) |

| JDD, I'll be done with it today and I'll let you know. I'm at the Poseidon Adventure part, House Melarn crumbling with Pharaun doing a selfless, undrow like, act of putting himself in harms way to save Danifea. Pharaun is fast becoming one of my favorite wizard's in the Realms, certainly worthy of top 2 or 3 consideration. |

I have read the following series and individual books so far (over the last 12 months or so) and I am wondering where to go from here:
1. The Moonshae Trilogy 2. The Icewind Dale triology 3. The Darkelf trilogy 4. The Avatar Series (excluding Crucible: the Trial of Cyric the Mad) I have yet to find it at a good price. 5. The following Harpers books: -The Parched Sea - Elfshadow - Elfsong - Crypt of the Shadowking - (I will be reading Curse of the Shadowmage) 6. The Twilight Giants Trilogy 7. The Cleric Quintet 8. The Path of Darkness Series 9. Escape from Undermountain (from the Nobles Series) 10. The Sembia Series 11. The Legacy of the Drow 12. The Ervis Cale Trilogy 13. The Hunter's Blade Trilogy 14. The Twilight War Trilogy
I'm currently working on the War of the Spider Queen Series and I will follow that up with the Elminster Series. I know, I want to find the Counselors and Kings Trilogy but where to go after that? I tend to read complete series before moving on to the next. Thanks |

Sounds good. I'm about a third of the way through a review which I'll post in a different thread and submit to the site proper at some point. The toning down of Pharaun's drowishness is one of the marked differences between this novel and its forbear, although it can be (just about) rationalised when you take into account the pressing need of the drow characters to work together. If Quenthel had had her way, though, the body count would be considerably higher!
Looking forward to your conclusions,
JDD |
