I've had a brain-wave, and we could use MSN or AOL messenger to host a game of D&D. I've noticed that many people say that there is not a group because they don't know a group in their area. Well with this idea, we could all meet online at a prearranged date and time, and using MSN play again of D&D. With Mundabs Permision we could use his Truely excellent dice rolling program. There are also several PDF Chaarcter sheets ont he web, that allow you to input information in the boxes. Well Anyone who wants to join is more than welcome, I propose a Sunday Afternoon/night for playing. I also propose that we don't make the sessions too long and have a mixture of combat and Rping to match the different interests of players here at Candlekeep. I'm more than willing to DM it, unless someone really wants to. Let me knows what you think please. Its open to everyone.

Elrond, that is an excellent idea. Playing D&D over MSN... In this other forum I go to, we play D&D in one section of the forum but it often takes a long time for one little battle because people go on very few times a week. Playing on MSN would make it progress faster... |

Ezindir, no I do not mind at all, and am heartily relieved to learn that someone is at least using it and finding it useful.
For the record it's MuadDib, but to make things easier, just call me Alex.
I too would be interested in joining this session, very interested and any time you guys wants I can make a plan to be there. Im out of most people's time zones, but im sure we can make a plan.
If anyone else wants the dice program, let me know, will send it as soon as possible.
As for AIM - I have Trillian, MSN - got an aco****, IRC I have a server and a registered channel. Let me know whihc medium we want to you, and in closing, thanks to Elrond for the great idea. I would be very very glad to join in this.

Thank You all for your encouragement. I'm really up to do this! To everyone who posted they wish to join your more than welcome! quote: Originally posted by Teflon I wouldnt mind playing it also. But if you guys had it via Mirc that would be awesome.
I think that most people use a Messenger Service and It would be better to use that, but once we have all the names assembled we can vote if you wish. There was an old RPG program for online gaming called GRIP however i downloaded it recently and found that it no longer connected to the server, and also cost money.

Thank Thee for the offer, you could place a Player Journal there if you wish! But the DMs write up of what happened etc (If its ok with you) will be placed in a certian secret project that im assembling with my friends.

Sage you'd be more than welcome, I understand how busy your life is... However the offer still stands if you'd like to join anytime just drop me a line!

MuadDib, I am truely sorry, however (As many people will understand)it is surprisingly hard to type when hung-over! As for the medium we will take a vote! Also on another note... You player 2nd Edition don't you? How familure with 3.5 or 3E are you? If this is a problem contact me, certian 'provisions' may be able to be made *Nudge nudge, wink, wink*
quote: Originally posted by Bookie Hasn't this been discussed before?
To be honest I'm not certian, however due to the flood of responses I'd think that its a popular idea and if done correctly would work. So how about it Bookwyrm?
Well I'm thinking of a 3E or 3.5 Campaign, depending upon what you lot want. I have several ideas for a campaign crewing in my mind. This topic is by no means closed! Perhaps everyone could post what time they are availble, what day is the best from them and their timezone. Anyone else who wishes to join is more than welcome. Other details will follow...

Actually, I was just planning on posting the straight logs (Copy+Paste from chat window), for players who have to miss a session. If you were already thinking that was what I meant, then nevermind. Regardless, I would be more than happy to host player logs. |

Its great that we have Six of us playing this! More are still welcome. It will take me a couple of weeks to get the material together... However I think that just now you will be adventuring in the Western Heartlands or Amn. If anything changes I will let you know!
I feel that MSN would perhaps be better for this, feel free to add me, and ask any questions you have! at oldskoolrebel@hotmail.com
The only worry that I have is time-zones and how these will affect our gaming.
There will be some house rules that we will be observing, I'll post the majority of these later, but here is a basic one: Some house rules: A bonus of upto 500XP (Yes upto 500XP) will be given out for a decent Character Hitory. This should comprise of at least half a page, and explains you history, some basic aspects of your characters behaviour, and also why he/she became and adventurer etc.

Character Generation guidelines ok!
Characters must use the standard 4d6 generation rules- roll 4 dice, drop the lowest and total the other three together. Hit points for all charatcters at level one are full. All races must be elected from either the FRCS or RoF. If you wish to play a race with a level adjustment of +1 or more you must contact me prior to creating the character. Character Histories should be included (For bonus XP). No min/maxing...
Basically the FRCS, PHB, and RoF are the resources availble to you. (Unless you contact me first) Hanx Elrond

great idea, I have not been able to do some D&D, since I dont know anybody who does. I have played the video games many times and know the rules from there (altho most of the rules are done for you as you play) If there is anyway for some newbs to watch you play, im in. And if you get a second session going, some of the newbs could join in.

Watch out for those rules in the computer versions. A lot of them are extremely simplified, and many are a munchkin's dream. For instance, my wizard character in Neverwinter Nights can reload his crossbow without provoking any attacks of opportunity, while his spellcasting does; it makes for a nice alternate when he runs out of spells or when the enemies are too close to use them. But in the real game, you can only reload once per round and it provokes an AoO.
So my advice is to read the real rulebooks. Otherwise, once you start playing for real, you might get some nasty surprises. |

Yea i know the BG games and NWN games and TOEE, simplfy the rules. I have actually seen the real rules used in Pen and Paper, but I did not play. I dont know anybody now who does the PNP thing so I never got the chance to try it out.
I think I would like the rule set, I like the detailed information and rules you must abid to, that gives me a better stategy on my character. Plus a "real" DM and not a computerized one is also much better to play with. |

Well...I hate my dice right now. I was relooking through the PHB to see what I wanted to play, idly rolling 4d6, and I got six rolls that would either be 17 or 18 if I were actually rolling my character. Now when I go to roll my character, I'm betting I won't get anything higher than 15. ::sigh:: |
