Um, I've actually been here for a couple of weeks, and finally realized I haven't introduced myself properly (sorry). I'm Drustan Dwnhaedan, a half-dragon (copper, in case you want to know) scholar who seeks knowledge and understanding (and patience, as I am prone to being rather nonsensical at times). I hope to get along with my fellow scribes and to have fun in general! (Er, and I'd also like to apologize for my tardiness in introducing myself. I trust that I'm forgiven for that little breach of conduct?) |

H'lo. I've been a fan of fantasy since an early age and an interest in RPGs naturally followed suit. I'm a big fan of the Realms because of it's diversity - you have knights and dragons mingling with ninja and dinosaurs. There's something for every kind of fantasy campaign. Hoping to have some interesting discussions about my favorite high fantasy setting. |

I for one would be suspicious of a copper dragon (or kin) who wasn't tardy or didn't commit a little breach of conduct here and there. |

Hello Scribes, my name's Jim and I'm a 40 year-old writer and editor. English by birth, but Polish by residence. :D My life-long love of D&D began with the now-legendary Basic Edition red box. I'll never forget those plastic dice and the white crayon for colouring the numbers. :D My D&Ding sort of came to an end at the end of the nineties when me and my friends finished school and went our separate ways, although by then I'd already tasted the sweet fruit of Commodore 64 and Amiga 500 AD&D games. :D Although I haven't PnP'd in a looong time, I've kept up my CRPGing, esp. through the Neverwinter SP games and DDO. But it was Cryptic's Neverwinter MMOG that made me dig out my old FR novels (Azure Bonds rahh!), and also led me here. Which looks like a great place to be, so thank you for providing it! :D |

Hello. Long time lurker, I've gradually become interested in Realmslore after re-reading many of the old novels and FR supplements so I thought I'd sign up. |

Hail! Another long-time lurker here, finally standing up to be counted. I've been playing in the Realms for about 15 years (if you count Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale; if not, around 12 or so) and loving every minute of it! |

'Allow all ~ just a fellow forum's lurker and avid story reader/teller from The far North. :) I've been officially role playing D&D for about four years now in a group a good friend of mine started, but I've been a huge fan of D&D and Forgotten realms for about the last 10 years. I look forward to meeting all of you! :) |

Hello, been lurking for some years now. Very interesting sites, thanks to all of you that gives maps, lore, etc. Been pretty interesting read so far and been a big help in my own FR game.
I have a question (the reason I finally decide to register), but guessed that I should introduce myself first.
Being a french Canadian, I must ask your forgiveness for my doubtful english (both grammar than syntax).
Apart of being a french Canadian, I'm a lover of the fantastic genre in general. Discovered D&D by novels first. Our famous dark elf being the one that makes me read FR first. While I didnt follow his adventure for some time (since the Orc stuff), I still thanks him (Salvatore) to introduce me to the realms first.
My first love for novels started with Dune (Frank Herbert one, not his son which came later), then Asimov and so on. I started playing D&D in college with new drinking friends, so I started in 3rd edition, even if I touched 2nd once or twice many years before, I didnt have a group to play so never got hoocked before 3rd edition. Been trying 4th, while interesting for the movement and strategic combat improvement, my group and myself stayed in 3rd (put hundred of $ in it and it still good for us). Will be looking at 5th, but since our group have all (well except race of stone and other useless book like this) 3rd edition, our conversation will probably be to try it only.
I DMed two campaign both in FR. Both are heavily home-rule. I love FR, but I'm not a slave of canon (even if I love it really). I have an idea and I make the world fit what I imagined. Since I love reading (so a good story) and since I'm a practical and logic person (or so I think), I tend to make more role-play than combat. I just dont understand random encounter (except in low level). This exemple is why I dont care about random encounter, it's just non realist*
*As a player, I played once with a power gamer that ask us (as DM) to make epic character from scratch, around lvl 25 I think. We were two players in the game. So anyway, we were camping in the wild and the DM asked us "you really making a fire?" we laugh and answered "of course". This camping trip in the wild with a fire got us attacked by a Red Great Wyrm Dragon....
My first Quest as a DM went for many years with multiple players coming and going into and out of the game. One player started it and finished it. I dont want to go into details, but the idea was to make an evil game with a religion driven theme. In the beginning, for reason not known to the players, core gods came to Toril, but since the ToT no two gods could have the same portefolio. So there was this all out war in the heaven and on Toril itself for god supremacy on every portefolio. Since my players choose to serve Bane, the first major quest was the church of Hextor abducting normal people, imprison them and make them pray for Hextor. Anyway, it went for many years and even in the epic levels. At the end, one was a lord of Hell, another help Bane becoming the One god of FR (a world of Tyrany), etc. As you can see highly home-ruling.
In my new one I wanted something completely different. Since the last one finished with some backstabbing and death for some character, after all evil character work together until there goals clash (and it did of course), I decide to make a game where team play and loyalty would be paramount. At the same time, I wanted to remove the importance of gods (even for cleric) and of alignment. I then create a multi-planar secret organisation. This organisation have mysterious and long term plan for the multi-verse. They are all powerful and play undercover everywhere to influence the "worlds" as they see fit. To this purpose they train children into high efficient and all purpose units. When a team is performed, they are brief about the region (and world) where they will work and then send them off. In this case, they are send to FR (silver marshes). It's been going for a couple of years now and I decide to use the Shade as the bad ass. For now, the group did a good job and are now "heroes of Silvermarshes (SM)" a kind of title that i create for my game. This title is given by the SM(duh) and are given some land that they have to pacify and control for the good of the SM. But now the more local quest is finish (they are now around lvl 14-15)and they now have a more global threat to face (the return of the Shades as stated earlier). At the same time, they are learning about there mysterious organisation, they are not fix yet as what is the big picture and if they will keep loyal to said organisation for long. Even if they started as a kind of swat/spy team, they are starting to get a life and goals of there own. Plus this organisation (while not evil and even if its rewarding) play hard ball. The mission is the first and only(kind of) goal. It's why alignment are not too much played, because they can do about anything they want for the mission. For exemple, they played both ways with the good folk and the orcs. To make the SM stronger they helped Obould to unite the orc tribes to pose a threat to the region and so makes the SM a stronger alliance. I wont go much farther since I dont want my players to read some crunchy details, but its going well.
Anyway, congrats to those who read it all! and I'm looking forward to speak with fellow scribe from now on! |

Hello to all the new folks, and to the old: I'm a sometime lurker of Candlekeep, but longtime poster over on RPG.net.
I've recently found myself wanting for a "campaign world of choice" for my Castles & Crusades games, so I've settled on the Realms and decided I'd join the fun here. |

Hail and Well Met!
Just wanted to give a quick greeting to everyone. I've been a fan of Faerun since I was a young lad of 11 or 12 or so when my brother dropped a paperback copy of "The Crystal Shard" on the couch and said "You might like this."
I've adventured as player and DM on and off in the realms for these past twenty five years and am looking forward to talking to those wiser than I in Realmslore to help me develop a great campaign for my players. |

"I? I am Xal Valzar. no i am not half-elf, no i am not half-orc either. i am both... A RAPE! How dare you! my parents wed and fled. As i say I am Xal Valzar, Son of Arrakk of the Moonsea and Amlaruil Moonflower of Eve - no not her, she is dead, that was her grandmother whom she is named after. Where in blazes am I to know where is the orginal?! How did they meet? In Myth Dannor of course. You see my mother was betrothened to an Elf of high birth -his name? To this day I know only his face! He lead an army and in one arrogant mistake almost lost the battle of Myth Dannor but my father, a fighter deciding to fight for civilization rather then barbarism, saved the battle with his cunning. But an Elf will rather deny the earth he steps on rather then admit an Orc won Myth Dannor. My father was demoted to that Elf's wife's bodyguard, lest the joke was on him. My mother and he fell in love and fleed. Yet he haunted them down and demanded a duel for my mothers hand. Although my Father bested him in a duel his prideful hatred and jealousy were strong and he attacked, barely escaping with thier life. They lived for 20 more years until i grew to be 19 years of age and he found us. His wretched crew was downed by my mothers magic but he escaped after being bested by my father once again. Yet I was the only one left standing. With the amulet of Moonflower and my fathers Axe I left to carve my own faith. And no I am not a fighter nor a wizard but both. No there is no conflict, there nothing as practical as theory and nothing more theoretical then practice. Now how does one get to Evermeet?"
This is my charcter, i wanted to know if any bit here contridicts anything in the Forgoteen Realms so far. Are Elf-Orcs possible(seems so since elfs and humans can breed and orcs and humans can breed). Are those the details of the battle for Myth Dannor and Evermeet? |

Newcomer. I moved, found a D&D 5th Edition group at a local gaming store, and am taking a turn as DM. Sometimes my players make choices or ask questions which I could answer better if I had access to more Realms lore. I am reading up, a bit at a time, but I'd also appreciate info on specific questions as they arise. So I may ask questions as if y'all were the "Faerun Visitors Bureau". |

That said: when I have a question, where is the best place/method to raise it? My topics of interest are all over the map, from the earliest sightings of the owlbear, to the number of tiefling residents in the city of Phlan, to the earliest document in the Forgotten Realms. I am a bit like a curious young human, walking into a great library, with questions for the sages. |

Welcome. General Chat is a good place for anything you are unsure of, if it is wildly out of place there one of the mods will reshelf it for you. |

Hello everyone, I am obviously new here, I have visited the site a few times and figured it would be smart just to go ahead and register and create an account. This place is an excellent source of information. I enjoy reading up on the novels, plots, characters etc. I am a fan of the Forgotten Realms and my favorite author is R.A. Salvatore. I am also a user on his forum, I have the same user name over there as well. I probably "know" a few people over here, I know Beast posts on here so that's awesome to know somebody familiar. That and I appreciate his in depth detailed explanations of just about everything lol. Currently I have been really interested in Szass Tam. Anyway before I ramble on into eternity thanks for this site and allowing me to become a member as well. Have a good night! |

I didn't start playing again until last year, myself -- the last time I played before that, 2E was still going strong.
My original group stopped gaming together, and eventually went in separate directions, and I never looked for another. I only got back into playing because a guy at work knew I was a former player and invited me to join his next campaign. |

A little bit of each honestly. There is a group I know of in my town (which is small and rural), but it's high school kids and one mom. I'm 25, have a wife, 2 kids, work, school, and other hobbies to juggle so probably won't ever be my scene. I have one friend who reads Realms that I talk about it with but mostly it's just me and a book at night or on lunch break. As well as reading lore on the Internet. |

Greetings!
I've been lurking for a while so I figured it was time to actually join the forums!
I'm a long-time D&D and Realms fan. I remember buying one of the books in the Empires series and getting a free pin in Waldenbooks back in the day. :)
I drifted away from D&D in general during the 90s during the World of Darkness heyday and did mostly homebrew campaigns during the 3.0/3.5 era. I actually came back to the realms due to the Living Forgotten Realms 4E campaign, and I'm a coordinator in my area for the 5E Adventurer's League campaign. It's definitely Realms-lite, but it's brought me back to the lore. (Even if the adventures don't have a lot of lore, I like to ground my characters in the world where they adventure, so I've been doing a lot of research - and this site is invaluable!)
Anyway, well met! |

So, I've been playing D&D/Werewolf for over twenty years now...I don't know how long this site has been up, but I've been using it for at least ten years. It is by far, one of the best sources and has remained one of the best sources for my campaigns.
I'm currently at work, and have been running a text-based campaign (between d20srd, roll20, rpol.net and Skype) for the two guys I work with (it's their first experience with D&D) for the past five months. I was on today looking at the plethora of information the Candlekeep has to offer, and for the first time I thought, "Why the hell am I not a member??? I've been visiting this site AT LEAST 3-4 times a week, (more during campaign creations) and these guys love the lore as much as I do. Why not become a member of the elite?" I'm a huge 3/3.5 fan. Out of all the editions, I clung to it the most. However, 5th edition is growing on me. I believe...5th edition is what 4th should have been. Because I won't even go into my feelings for 4th, or the experiences I've had with it. And then of course I am also a fan of the Forgotten Realms campaigns and Pathfinder (or as I call it, v3.75).
Anyhow, I hope I am able to contribute in the future. |
I am Dungeon Master. |
