Im planning on sending my players to this forest in the not to distant future, about seven games or so. Ok so my question for all my fellow scribes here is has anyone done any games in this forest and what type of lore did you make up for this area, in particular elven lore, ruins, abandon cities, though any is welcome. I know there was some stuff on here in the campaign guide pg 202 about moons elves living there and a number of them turning themselves into trees during the war with the hobgoblins. I also know there is a area in the woods that is called Alithyn's copse though not why its so special. I was contemplating that this area was where the moon elves turned themselves into trees and that it was a elven druidic circle that did so and it was named after their head druid.
P.s my players are predominately elves so i tend to do games rich in elven history and archeology.
There have been two elven realms within this forest.
The first Larlotha was from -6850 DR to -1355 DR. I'm guessing the forest was much bigger, perhaps encompassing all of Impiltur's lowlands perhaps. They entered into a big war with the hobgoblins of Haerukka and suffered grevious losses (despite help from their dwarven allies) which caused them ultimately to retreat to Cormanthyr.
Then in 75 DR, elves from the Sword Mountains (the elven realm of RIlithar) travel through a portal and arrive in the Grey Forest. They establish the realm of Vedrymmel and ally with the fugitive king Baranth I of Impiltur. Eventually supporting his bid to win back his crown they. They also support King Pendarn against his traitorous kin during a war for the crown of Impiltur. The elves continued supporting Impiltur as allies until 512 DR when they were destroyed by the orcs of Vastar, although by this time it looks like they were mostly half elves.
Of course all of this information is provided by the most excellent scribe George Krashos who will no doubt tell you more if you ask him.
Hmm for some reason i forgot there were two different realms at different times, I guess i would be more interested in Vedrymmel since it was the last to occupy that forest. I am mostly interested in the type of cities they may have lived in like what kind of architecture was in those cities or if they even lived in cities at all and was just more roving bands of elves. So what might have they left behind in the form of ruins, relics, or knowledge. also what clans of moon elves might have at one point consisted of the ruleship of the realm. And yes I am aware which is why i have posted this here to try to get some homebrew ideas rolling about that i can work with or tweek and what not to suit my games. Normally i dont use homebrew stuff unless its coming from me but i seem to be have a writers block ^10 of late and can think of any ideas for the life of me.
