Some people have asked when a print edition of THE HEP CATS OF ULTHAR AND OTHER LOVECRAFTIAN TALES would be available. The answer is, as of today!
This book from Macabre Ink (an imprint of Crossroad Press) collects many of my best Cthulhu Mythos and cosmic horror stories including three never before published. The tales range through the Middle Ages to the future and from Lovecraft's New England to the stars, and while the predominant vibe is of course horror, there's also some humor as well as some swordplay for heroic fantasy readers.
Bottom line, this is a book I'm quite proud of, and if you haven't already, I hope you'll check it out.

Available now: My new fantasy novel THE SHADOW GUIDE!
If you've enjoyed my other sword-and-sorcery stories, my Forgotten Realms work, for instance, I think you'll like this one, too, and I hope you'll check it out.
Just one caveat: An earlier version of this book appeared under the title THE GHOST IN THE STONE. If you bought GHOST, I wouldn't want you to buy this one under the impression you were getting something 100% new.
Although if you liked GHOST and want to see the story continue relatively quickly, you COULD buy a copy for a friend or post a review. Just a thought.
Anyway...

GraphicAudio's audio drama version of my fantasy novel BLACK DOGS is available now! (BLACK DOGS is my first full-length novel about the mercenary company the Black River Irregulars. It's sword and sorcery with a steampunk overlay set in Privateer Press's Iron Kingdoms universe.)

I just discovered my new heroic fantasy novella is now available. (Publishers, you really should tell your authors these things.)
If you're someone who hoped I would do something big in the vein of my Forgotten Realms novels, here it is. This is intended to be the start of a true epic fantasy, only told not in cinder-block-sized novels but in novellas that come out more frequently.
Just how soon I'll do the next one, though, depends on the response to this one since I write for a living and have to prioritize projects that make money. So I hope people will give this one a try as I'm eager to press on.
Here's where you can get it:

But at the same time, it's an unabashed heroic fantasy novel, so if you like my Forgotten Realms books, I think you'll like this one as well.

Hey Richard,
I don't follow the marketing for marvel much, though over the past 6 years I've read more Thor comics than you can shake a stick at (getting a lot of past compendiums off amazon, etc..)... and I do try to keep up with the current Thor comics... so I'm both surprised and happy to hear that Marvel's doing some "legends of Asgard" novel series. Are you doing them all? Do you know how many they might be roughly doing or anything more about their plans that you can reveal? Is this the first one? |

I am not doing them all although I do hope there will be more from me after this first one. I'm pretty sure there is not a finite number of them that Aconyte Books intends to do and then, no more. I think that perspective would actually be antithetical to their ambitions. They hope the line will prosper and there will be many more books for years to come.
They're doing books set in the non-Asgardian parts of the Marvel Universe, too, although I'm not involved in those series as of yet. In all cases, authors are supposed to look to the Marvel Comics Universe as opposed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with regard to continuity issues, etc. |

From what I understand Stedd Whitehorn was one of your characters and you wrote him as a chosen and prophet of Lathander. I think your opinion on what a chosen of Lathander would have for abilities and skills could help guide what I would like to do with a character I'm making. Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

It's been so long since I wrote the book or had any involvement with the Realms at all that I no longer have a clear memory of what I had in mind. You might glean more from reading the novel than from anything I say here.
I do recall that Stedd was a fledgling Chosen, as it were, not yet come into all the powers he would have when mature. That meant I could punt on defining what exactly those powers would be, and it gives you a good deal of latitude on deciding what they ought to be.
I think I projected that the mature Stedd would have the full range of clerical magic at his disposal plus special abilities that reflected the nature of his patron deity.
Hope this helps at least a little. |

If I may be so bold,
I was reading through the threads and noticed that Zethrindor does not have a game-equivalent for his Disintegrate Area spell (thanks for saying it out loud! I really looked everywhere for it, even magic items, epic spells, item-item interaction exceptions!). I thought maybe Firefingers, too, was an ad-hoc with his flame redirection ability, maybe from being an old pyromaniac, but in the tail-end of the Ruin, both Firefingers and Scattercloak use that ability to redirect ironwyrm drolem breath. I've been sifting through every spell out there and couldn't figure out what spell it was. Given the extensive attention the series put to such things, I still suspect that I might be missing something.
Was there a specific spell you had in mind, or was it actually a freestyle? |

I'm very sorry, but I wrote this too long ago and have written too many things since. I no longer remember. |

Oh! I honestly didn't expect you to answer so soon. Sorry I didn't check on this thread before. It's okay if you don't remember, and let me thank you for taking the time to reply even though this thread is so old. |
