Just wondering, did "Selfaril" (or rather his twin brother Rassendyl) and the "first princess of Thay, Dmitra Flass, ever produce any children officially? I figure that after the fall of Thay, she probably took up more of a residence in the city. Nothing in the 4e campaign guide says the enclave was ousted. However, I do note that it became a "council" of blade lords rather than the High Blade ruling. I'm betting not since they killed her off in undead (though whether she stayed dead is a good question).

I have been wondering about what to do with the Moonsea in my region.

Of course spellplague doesnt happen and therefore everything is still around largely as it was so i find myself having to come up with future events to continue the plot hooks in the 2nd and 3rd edition sourcebooks.

I was always uneasy about the marriage of Selfaril and Dmitra, it never seem to fit quite right with me. However as 3rd edition came around i realised what it was all about.

Who would control the Moonsea.

So Selfaril was in charge of Mulmaster and had to contend with the rising power of the Zhentarim (even when Zhentil Keep was destroyed it didnt seem to dent the organisation). I believe Mulmaster's navy was destroyed at the battle of the river Lis (alluded to in earlier sourcebooks). That leaves Mulmaster in a precarious position.

So Selfaril gets in bed with the Red Wizards to give him some big allies. All the red wizards seem to want out of this arrangement is an enclave in the city which had been popping up everywhere so no big deal. However Szass Tam and the other Zulkirs suddenly notice Mulmaster and their eyes turn to the Moonsea, a strong trading centre which ties in nicely to their new ambition to dominate the world through trade (of magical items).

Fzoul Chembryl doesnt like this much and so has Selfaril killed and Rassendyl replace him. Now the 3rd edition sourcebook implies that Rassendyl controls Mulmaster pretty much with an iron fist, intimidating the blades and killing those that dont comply while playing off the zhentarim and red wizards against one another.

Now the way i see it, neither the Zhentarim or the Red Wizards are going to sit idly by while another organisation muscles in on territory they want.

I pictured in the end Rassendyl will lose control of the Zhentarim and Red Wizard factions in Mulmaster and things will start to get ugly.

However, as always its not as clear cut as that and there is still the Blades, nobles loyal to Mulmaster itself and they would not want to see Mulmaster handed over to the Zhents or the Red Wizards. Now while Rassendyl is in charge they are powerless to do anything, but there is nothing to stop them arranging his death.

Rassendyl's personal assassin that he contracts to kill uncooperative Blades is NE so he is not exactly loyal, and has been known to turn on Blades he has been hired to protect if he gets paid enought. Plus Rassendyl is the only person who knows his true identity so i figure he will be chomping at the bit to kills Rassendyl.

All it needs is for things to get bad enough and the Blades would probably put a contract out on Rassendyl's head, which the assassin would be all to willing to take.

Anyways, thats what i intend to do with Mulmaster. And rather bizarrely that would lead to Mulmaster being ruled by a council of Blades similar to 4e.

I dont see Rassendyl and Dmitra having kids, and if they did i doubt their progeny would survive long, all factions might seek to use the child for their own ends and it would probably end in a messy assassination.

Don't forget the High Blades personal wizard police force, the Brotherhood of the Cloak, who deal in thought probing magic and divinations. If the red wizards believed that Selfaril wasn't himself any longer, they might just nullify whatever mind probing protections he had long enough for a member of the brotherhood to scan their own leader. Once they realized they'd been duped, they might out him to the nobility.

That's kind of why I was wondering if they'd ever had children, because if they HAD, it would be in Thay's best interest to keep him in power. If they hadn't, then perhaps they could make an arrangement with the nobility, the Cloaks, the church of Bane, and the Enclave.

My alternate spin on things has the Red Wizards splitting into a faction loyal to Szass Tam, based out of Thay, and an exile faction that was based out of (and eventually controlling) Mulmaster.

If i remember reading the cloaks section right they are actually loyal to the title of High Blade so my interpretation was that the cloaks wouldnt give two hoots who the current high blade was or what happened to the old one, only that they are serving the ruler of Mulmaster and that he is loyal to Mulmaster.

I imagine they would be peeved at any infiltration from outside influences but thats precisely what i picture the red wizards doing over time.

Rassendyl was using the red wizards and zhentarim to intimidate unruly Blades and other factions in the city. I could see the red wizards muscling in on the cloaks and the zhentarim muscling in on the militia and the hawks so they each have their dirty little mitts in the defensive interests of the city (making them that much more difficult to expel without weakening the city).
