So I recently saw the movie Frozen and was intrigued by the winter based magical powers of one of the protagonists Queen Elsa. I wondered how her magic rates in comparison to the wizards and sorcerers of the realms? Hopefully some of the learned scribes here at Candlekeep can give me some idea. For those who have not seen the movie let me briefly describe some of her more impressive feats of magic. These might be a bit of spoiler for those who have not yet seen the movie so don't say i didn't warn you.
1. She covered the lands in eternal winter ( by accident since she could not control her powers). 2. She created a sentient ice golem with just a thought. 3. She made a castle of ice with little evident effort. 4. She also shattered irons chains by freezing them.
However her offensive powers seemed weaker, consisting mainly of spikes of ice and blasts of cold though perhaps this was because she did not really want to kill anyone.

I suppose her power might have been roughly equivalent to Iraclea the Ice Queen - an epic level priestess of Auril. Can't be sure as I haven't seen Frozen but the feats you mention are pretty impressive except for the shattering of the chains. |
When life turns it's back on you...sneak attack for extra damage.

She would definitely be epic in power and I would think that the Eternal Winter thing has to be 10th/epic level. I'm sure she ranks up there with some of the most powerful casters in FR (though falling below the likes of El and Larloch). Aanyone attempting to blanket a large area in eternal winter would likely attract the attention of the elves. I recall reading somewhere that anyone attempting to create a 'killing storm' would be marked for death...this spell may do the same. |
I have a dream that one day, all game worlds will exist as one. |

Yes she did seem to be just as powerful as Iraclea and perhaps even more so. And the chains were really big lol. |

True enough, certainly as hashimashadoo mentioned she can be compared to Iraclea, who had the same goal of covering the lands in eternal winter but you know kind of failed at it. |

Spoilers indeed! Don't mind really. Will go see it tomorrow.
To your question, I guess she'd be more powerful than Iyraclea. Elsa covered lands with ice with her own powers, you said. Iyraclea, in comparison, didn't keep the north frozen; Auril did. |

Well I did warn you!
Yeah she did it with her own powers, not with the backing of any deity. Have you seen it yet? I hope you liked it. |

Here's what would have happened if she had fallen to the dark side. |

Watched it Friday Night. Must say, really liked it. It definitely had twists that I didn't see coming. My GF's daughter liked it too. |
