If you can find a copy of The Forgotten Realms Atlas, by Karen Wynn Fonstad, you can find some information about the celestial staircase, Blackstaff Tower, and the final events of the Time of Troubles.
Volo's Guide to Waterdeep contains many of the Waterdhavian locations I use in my campaign.
If you want non-canon material, I have CD's full of stuff I added to the city, including a few new Lords. |

Yes I recall hearing something about new novels of Elminster, never knew they mentioned Waterdeep in those. But I shall gladly have a look and see for myself. Thank you for the information.
While I do recommend reading the books on general principle because they focus on Mystra being reborn, Manshoon, the remaining Chosen dealing without a goddess, etc., I can't recommend you read them to find out about Waterdeep. I believe that bit I mentioned was literally one line or part of one conversation. On the other hand, Mirt is in them, though he is likely no longer a Lord of Waterdeep as he has been gone for nearly a century. |

I definitely need to check that out, those places are very familiar to me. I'd like to learn more about them.
Volo's were always interesting to me. I actually enjoyed some of Volo's guides. Just haven't read Waterdeep's yet.

Well regardless, thanks for the info on it. I do enjoy reading about Mystra and such, so that will still be enjoyable. See, Mirt kind of gave off a enigmatic vibe sometimes. Simply because he plays a big role in Waterdeep, from what little I read. Or at least it seemed that way to me. |

As hashimashadoo said, there was a war between guilds and noble families, resulting in a extinction of certain of these families (iirc) and few guilds very unappreciated, even centuries after these events. The rivalry between guilds and nobles are still going on today, but we are very far from a war. Or aren't we ?  |

The identity of one rather exotic 1479 Masked Lord is speculated in my novel DOWNSHADOW, in the last full chapter before the epilogue. And yeah, she's probably right.
I know several more but I'm not sure who's been disclosed and which are still protected under NDA, so I'll leave it a mystery.

Not only that, but it does clarify to others that Elminster was a hidden lord. But I do believe in one of my Elminster books, it blatantly says he was anyway. Or, at the very least, it vaguely mentions it. But yeah, it does open doors to several other questiosn as well... |

Not sure if anyone remembers this but I really enjoyed the "Eye of the Beholder" games for PC. Well the first one is still my favourite to this day. What I did in my own personal D&D FR campaign was I made "Kirath Half-elven" a Lord of Waterdeep after he made it out of the dungeons below the city.
Now if you don't know Kirath, he was a magic user who's bones you find in the Mind Flayer level of the game. You can have him resurrected and he will join the party.
