I have just been going through the Savage Frontier book, finding quite a few interesting pieces of lore that for some reason were not included when they copied this book virtually word for word later, such as Radoc being punished by a titan of Empyrea named Sylla (the same titans that fled Faerun long ago perhaps?)

Anyways, one interesting piece I found was in the brief writeup of Laeral stating she found the Crown of Horns in Yulash?

How on earth did it get there.

I know from reading on this site that it was created/worked on in Netheril and a big explosion killed an arcanist (whose name I cant remember).

Yulash was the site of the binding of Moander in 175 DR, although Yulash didn't exist at the time - probably just a shrine/temple to Moander.

So how did the Crown of Horns get from the dusty desert ruins of Anauroch to Yulash and why. I realise Myrkul could teleport it anywhere he wanted but why Yulash.

And what was Laeral doing in Yulash to find it. What little I know of her is that she created a realm in the north called Stornanter and imprisoned the liches in the hosttower of Luskan.

I just cant picture the two connecting. Any know any more than the above?

Laeral was an adventurer at the time and she was doing just that: adventuring. As to how the Crown came to be in Yulash, read the write-up for the lich Aumvor the Undying in "Champions of Ruin".

Yulash, I lash, we all lash....

As for Radoc, Sylla, and Empyrea, you need to read the full history of all of that in Egg of Phoenix, ostensibly set in the Greyhawk setting (although I am now thinking it might make a fine addition to Abeir).

Funny thing is, I merged New Empyrea with the Daggerford region in my mash-up setting, so now if I use the Radoc stuff from Savage Frontier he didn't get banished very far.

There is also an excellent write-up for the Crown of Horns in Monstrous manual Annual #4, under the Shadowrath entry. It has some more history. In fact, there is lots of neat FR stuff in that tome (one of my favorites) - you find Realmslore in the strangest places.

For instance, the entry just before the Shadowrath is The Shade - a being from GREYHAWK. Glad we never got any of those nasty things....

And i had copied all of Aumvor's stuff previously and not read it properly, can't believe i missed that.

I like the idea of Aumvor looking for an apprentice to help create his Netheril empire reborn and he selects Laeral. I wonder if he knew she was one of the chosen of Mystra?

Now all i need to do is locate some really old non FR books with lots of juicy lore in and i will be happier.

I just found out as well that Radoc died attacking Hellgate Keep. Why did he attack Hellgate Keep of all places.

And the Beastlord as it turns out is an illithid, warring with an illithid city in the Underdark. Why did all these juicy details get left out of later sourcebooks for the North when they copied them virtually verbatim.

I had figured-out that the 'Tangglords' of the EoP modules were really some type of powerful Tieflings (Cambions?).

Thus, it could possibly make sense that Radoc was either trying to contact his former ally Krellokk (using portals within Hellgate Keep), or trying to get revenge on him for bringing him down. It could be as simple as him trying to use the lower planes as a back-door to get home.

A lot of those bits got left out because they weren't from 'Eds Realms', they were stuff Slade and Paul (Jennell) Jaquays shoe-horned in from their own settings (and some came originally from a different game entirely - Dragonquest - which was bought by TSR). There has been a LOT of 'fixing' of Slade & Paul's un-Realmsian material in EVERY edition.

Perhaps those two were the greatest RSE of all.

If Aumvor knew she was a Chosen, he certainly didn't know that donning the Crown would interfere with her powers as it did.

I thought the fact that the Beastlord was an illithid did make the transition. I'm sure I saw it in a later source.

Edit: It was at least in The North. P.66 of The Wilderness.

When life turns it's back on you...sneak attack for extra damage.
