Laeral was an adventurer at the time and she was doing just that: adventuring. As to how the Crown came to be in Yulash, read the write-up for the lich Aumvor the Undying in "Champions of Ruin".

Yulash, I lash, we all lash....
As for Radoc, Sylla, and Empyrea, you need to read the full history of all of that in Egg of Phoenix, ostensibly set in the Greyhawk setting (although I am now thinking it might make a fine addition to Abeir).
Funny thing is, I merged New Empyrea with the Daggerford region in my mash-up setting, so now if I use the Radoc stuff from Savage Frontier he didn't get banished very far.
There is also an excellent write-up for the Crown of Horns in Monstrous manual Annual #4, under the Shadowrath entry. It has some more history. In fact, there is lots of neat FR stuff in that tome (one of my favorites) - you find Realmslore in the strangest places.
For instance, the entry just before the Shadowrath is The Shade - a being from GREYHAWK. Glad we never got any of those nasty things.... |

I had figured-out that the 'Tangglords' of the EoP modules were really some type of powerful Tieflings (Cambions?).
Thus, it could possibly make sense that Radoc was either trying to contact his former ally Krellokk (using portals within Hellgate Keep), or trying to get revenge on him for bringing him down. It could be as simple as him trying to use the lower planes as a back-door to get home.
A lot of those bits got left out because they weren't from 'Eds Realms', they were stuff Slade and Paul (Jennell) Jaquays shoe-horned in from their own settings (and some came originally from a different game entirely - Dragonquest - which was bought by TSR). There has been a LOT of 'fixing' of Slade & Paul's un-Realmsian material in EVERY edition.
Perhaps those two were the greatest RSE of all. |

If Aumvor knew she was a Chosen, he certainly didn't know that donning the Crown would interfere with her powers as it did.
I thought the fact that the Beastlord was an illithid did make the transition. I'm sure I saw it in a later source.
Edit: It was at least in The North. P.66 of The Wilderness. |
