I'm looking for a great way to integrate this into my campaign. My wife's druid is a half-elf who was orphaned to a local human druid (who has recently gone missing). She doesn't know who her parents are and has shown some interest trying to find out about them. I've thought about several plot lines but none sound appealing and I would like to work this plot line into an existing module (preferably Forgotten Realms). She prefers that her parents were in a "forbidden romance". I would like this to be a rewarding arc for her to follow with the current group as well that can help her flesh out the background and identity of her current PC. The grove she tends with the human druid who raised her is in the Moonwood and we recently traveled to Silverymoon. I'd thought about trying to tie this in somehow with the People of the Black Blood storyline in Moonwood. I just don't have alot of ideas. Did the elven parent retreat to Evermeet? Why did they split up? Why did they have to abandon her to a local druid? I also thought about trying to tie this into "The Inheritance" module. Any ideas appreciated.

What's the Inheritence module?

Oof, being raised by a druid sounds like a harsh thing for a kid. That alone could be worth digging into.

Elves that go on retreat are usually forbidden to bring their half-elven children with them so that is definately an option if you're playing before 1375 DR.

Sometimes natural lycantropes skip generations. Perhaps one of her human parent has a dormant natural lycantrophic curse? Her potential as a shapeshifter coming from one of the tribes of lycanthopes in the moon wood could have shown early, perhaps scaring her parents. (The Moonwood houses wandering tribes of werebears, marauding bands of wereboars, savage werewolf packs, and a few nocturnal werebat hunters). Maybe they (mistakenly?) saw her as a natural lycantrope and she was thought to learn to control her shapeshifting by pursuing the shapeshifting ways of druids?

Well, without age, more background clearly hard to offer advice. Druids do belong to an order even if not talking much, also they get along reasonable well with rangers, elves and Fey.

As for elf human mating clearly the Mother could have died in childbirth, the father killed by orcs. After all you said "orphaned" , though if either is still alive abandoned might be a better term.

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."

I have an idea: Her father was a human ranger, and seduced her elven mother. The father either was or became a lycan (it skipped a generation....or did it?) and still lives as a member of the People of the Black Blood. Her mother was forced to abandon her with a local druid when she went to Evermeet. she still lives.

This would fit in well with the short adventure in the back of Silver Marches. It is hard because this is her first PC and she hasn't/doesn't know how to flesh out her characters so I'm trying to help. She doesn't even have a surname.

I think I will have her mother leaver her a letter and a hope chest with a few things from her elven house.

So, you want a forbidden romance. Lets give it to them. What if the mother was an elf and the father was a human. However, the mother's family were members of the Eldreth Veluuthra (if you want a name, perhaps she's the daughter of Daryngrynth Sharparrow or the wizard Herianamae of Evereska). On a trip, the mother's group was attacked by orcs or whatever, and this human ranger-wizard-eldritch knight rescues her. He refuses to let her cross the wilderness alone, so he escorts her to wherever she was going (lets assume she was going to the High Forest, maybe). Along the way, she falls in love with him and gives herself to him. When they reach their destination, her father is there, and she introduces her "new love". Her father pulls her aside and tells her she "cannot marry a stinking human".... it causes a fight, and they don't talk for a month. Meanwhile, her father decides he's going to nip this in the bud and sets about to assassinate the young human male. His assassination attempt however is interrupted by his daughter showing up to tell the human that she's pregnant and that the human is the father, after which both are happy. However, this infuriates the elven father who is the Eldreth Veluuthra, and he flips out, attacks the human, who uses his magic to somehow rescue the daughter and send her to safety (possibly a druid circle). She then gives birth to the child and dies in childbirth (or maybe she lives, but dies at the hands of the Eldreth Veluuthra who are seeking to slay the child, and those Eldreth Veluuthra are killed by druids who then take in the child).
