I just re-read the Cleric Quintet and it was every bit as enjoyable as when I read it 15 years ago! If you haven't read it, then you are lucky!!! Because you get to experience it for the first time!

I was living on an Air Force base in South Korea when I started reading Realms books and they NEVER had a copy of Canticle so I ended up reading the "Cleric Quartet" until I was finally able to get a copy. |

Great series! I think Fallen Fortress is my favourite (book 4)...I would have ended the series after book 4 and just had Cadderly build the Spirit Soaring after his return from the fortress. Book 5 is a painful read for me, I don't like how dark it was and though the characters acted stupidly. |

I liked it as I was reading it, including the first book, but I hated the spiritual struggle Cadderly went through. I'm just not religious, and I have a hard time enduring a detailed read-through of that sort of thing. And the old man disease he experienced as a result of all his wishes just made his god out to be insensitive and uncaring, to me. I hated that Cadderly sacrificed so much, and his god let him, instead of making it all better by the end. |

Haha BEAST you and I are opposite in that I actually wished RAS talked about the gods more in his books, but he said himself he tries not to. You're right though in that he shouldn't have become old like that, though the spell was reversed. What I hated more than him becoming old was...well, I won't spoil it in case people aren't up to date on the Drizzt books. |

In the beginning, Salvatore prefered to write a novel with a monk as protagonist, but Wizards insisted with the Cleric story. The quintet is excellent.Indeed, the last book is not so good. |

I don't find the work too overly religious, compared to other works, but I like that Cadderly is definitely the chosen one amongst his chosen faith. Love the Dwarven brothers and Danica.

It was to show Cadderly finally embracing his god, and being embraced as that god's Chosen, by way of a big tragedy and a desperate plea of faith to remedy the situation. By Cadderly engaging in this big religious act of wishing (praying, whatever), he got his library-church back, better than ever. And we get treated to a tale of would-be heroic self-sacrifice, in the process.
I liked the idea of Cadderly and Danica finally sealing the deal. That part, at least, was welcome. |

I just reread the first book in the series. I think what sets it apart is the humor. It is really just too funny. There's the obvious with the brother dwarves but I was lol-ing when the mummy starts running amok. Too funny!

I liked all the book in this series expect for the first one which was ok i guess but certainly nothing great. However this was one of the first realms series I had ever read and it retains a fond place in my heart. |
