Fire and Dust, James Gardner 1996
Pages of Pain, Troy Denning 1997
Torment, Ray & Valerie Vallese 1998*
* Yes, I'm aware everybody (except Sage) says this novel really sucks. I still want access to it.

Planescape: Torment (The Unofficial Novel), Rhyss Hess 1999
Planescape: Torment (A Novelization), ShadowCatboy & Logan Stromberg 1999

Blood War Trilogy
Blood Hostages, Robert King 1996
Abyssal Warriors, Robert King 1996 (have ebook, would prefer paperback)
Planar Powers, Robert King 1997

I'm looking for these Planescape novels, paperbacks preferred but will take ebooks if hardcopy is unavailable. I'm after the content, so physical condition is unimportant (provided all the text is still present and legible). The ones I've seen on eBay have sold for about $45-$300 per book, which just seems utterly ridiculous for paperback fiction.

I have sold the entire Blood Wars Trilogy several times on ebay before for $30 and will let you know if I come across some more copies.

You may have already checked, Ayrik, but I'd doubly recommend keeping an eye on nobleknight.com for second-hand copies of the official Torment novel. That's where I got my replacement copy after my original was "permanently borrowed" by a friend.

...

Personally, I didn't think the novel "sucked," but it's what you can expect for a novel based on a video game. Regardless, it's well worth at least one reading -- especially by PS fans.

Yeah, that novel seems to be the difficult find. I think it was a short run or it never reached Canada - plus it's also obfuscated by the game title (and at least three different unofficial novels inspired by the game, also sharing the same title). My big box bookstores cannot locate stock (and I suspect the lackadaisical clerks are just banging against google instead of actually hunting for copies within their logistics chain). Finding a particular book within the utter flea-market chaos of my local used-book stores would be a recklessly Herculean task ... and I always walk out of there hours later with a pile of books I didn't initially intend to find. Too much time reading takes away from coding.

I do remember hearing something about a very limited overseas distribution. It's one of the reasons why I know there were very few copies available here in Australia when I originally tried to purchase a copy. Perhaps it affected Canadian distribution as well.

Still, $45 minimum asking price on eBay, that's just not acceptable.

Truthfully, I can't really afford fifty dollar paperbacks at this time. My entertainment budget is somewhat nonexistent, available only through compromising other things.

But it's actually more sort of a stubborn "principle" thing. I just don't feel a paperback is worth more than about $10, perhaps $15 if it's really thick. $45 per piece just isn't acceptable, I would only justify the price for vintage collector stuff, assuming it was in valuable condition. And this particular novel - by all accounts except yours, Sage - is apparently not at all worth collecting.

Have you tried scouring your local used bookstores? I sometimes get "old" ['80s-2000] materials from them. [And it helps when you know the owners---who would call you to report books listed on your category/author of preference (FR, PS, DL, Warhammer, Simon Hawke, Raymond E. Feist, Holly Lisle, Barbra Hambly, etc..] before they put them on display.]

Every beginning has an end.

That may just have to do more with my finicky need for completeness when it comes to collecting/reading. Should others think a specific product is "really, really bad"... I've long endeavoured to try -- at the very least -- to read everything published for a particular setting. Even if I can't purchase or own a specific product released, I'll make every attempt to gain reading access if at all possible.

My inclination toward finding a copy of the official Torment novel falls into this scenario. Though, I was actually lucky enough to have gained two copies [the original was "lost" as I noted earlier].

Regardless, even though some may not consider it worth collecting, I can only happily disagree when I look at my own copy and gain a very satisfying sense of completeness from my PLANESCAPE collection.
