I'm currently reading Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert and The Communist Manifesto, both for The Modern and the Postmodern on Coursera.

I've written a review of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, if anyone is interested: http://mattymoron.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-sane-man-is-simply-better-liar-than.html

Madame Bovary is pretty good, I'm only a few chapters into it. I'm also pretty early into The Communist Manifesto, but while I agree with Marx and Engel's criticisms of the capitalist philosophy of labor, I can't see how he believes any state will ever do anything but exploit the working class (as Rousseau said, the state is merely a scheme by which the rich have convinced the poor to defend the property of the rich).

It was totally intended understatement.....I was afraid to nudge Sage into yet another SageVortex in which his do to list exponentially expands at an even faster rate!

I'm not sure what I'll read next.

The Lady K has The Companions on order, which should arrive this week. So I need something to read between now and when she's done with the first book of "The Sundering."

Hmmm. Maybe catch up on 'The Dresden Files.'

how far behind are you on Dreseden?

The last few novels may be my favorites.

I'm embarrassed to say that I've only just finished Summer Knight. Which, I think, is about the fourth book.

Then I vote thats your next reading assignment....catch up on Harry.

He's done alot of interesting things since you left him.

So I've heard. But I've also been itching to catch up on my reading of "A Song of Fire and Ice," since I'm still looking to finish A Storm of Swords at some point.

I'll see how I feel come the weekend. That's usually when I make decisions about what to read next, because I can normally seize an hour or two of free time to properly sit down and delve into my stacks and stacks of unread books to find what I would like to start reading.

This is now official. [Mostly because Narnra thought the phrase rather cute, I'll admit. She's even offered to illustrate a drawing of a typical gremlin, but with my face in place of it's own. ]

Candlekeep's gremlins are now to be referred to as Sage-lins.

Thanks to Wooly!

In addition to the other two books I'm reading, I started reading King of Chaos. The Monster Hunter book isn't holding my interest so much that I'm not willing to read something else, and since I'm a huge fan of Radovan and Count Varian Jeggare, I decided to download and start reading that book yesterday. I'll continue with the actual print novel when it arrives in the mail in a few days -- I now have the option of doing ebooks, but I'm still preferring dead tree format.

The Lady K is finished with The Companions, so I'm adding that to my current reading stack today. Which also includes A Storm of Swords: Blood and Gold, and another novel I've yet to decide upon.

I am currently reading angel exterminatus, the latest book in the Horus heresy series. It focuses mostly on the Iron warriors and their bitter and volatile primarch Perturabo.

I'm so far behind in my reading of the "Horus Heresy" series. I've only just dusted off Legion for eventual reading some time this year.

So you are like almost 20 books behind. There is only one option...
Gird yourself brother and descend into the fiery malestrom of war in the name of the Emperor!
Seriously though a lot of the later book are pretty good and in many ways a lot more epic and action packed than conventional Warhammer 40000 fare.

I'm eager to reach Mechanicum and A Thousand Sons -- as they feature two of my favourite groups in WH40K.

Yeah Thousand Sons is a great book, its twin Prospero burns was also awesome. Mechanicum was good too but its not one of my favorites.

Very true. But I'd at least like to be done with the second part of the third book before Season Four of the television series begins.

Yes indeed it is. Its written by Dan Abnett and shows us the inner workings of the legion. They are not just a pack of savages though that is the impression most people have of them.
Another enjoyable book is Shadows of Treachery , its actually an anthology but some of the short stories in it are quite good.

I finished Monster Hunter Legion last night at work; it was slow, even for an off-Friday. The book was enjoyable, but not enough to make me want to seek out the earlier books in the series.

I'm concentrating on King of Chaos right now... Depending on how long my Paizo shipment takes, I may finish it before the print version arrives! Either way, once that is done, it'll be time to revisit Hogwarts.

I finished King of Chaos at lunch today... It's the first time I've read an entire ebook!

I wouldn't have read this one as an ebook, but I quite enjoy the Jeggare and Radovan books, and wasn't going to wait for the book to arrive in the mail.

I've still got to finish that Iron Kingdoms freebie, and after that, no more ebooks until I get the ones from the Warmachine Tactics Kickstarter. Just because I can read books on my Nexus 7 doesn't mean I'm ready to even think of abandoning dead tree format!

I cant believe he dies at the end of that one and is a zombie in the next 6 books!

Reading the hobbit nightly to my 5 yr old, we have just gotten to the middle of the conversation with Smaug and he can't wait to find out what Bilbo does next. Funny when Bilbo confronts the dragon, Tristan said to me "Dad wait....ummm that's not the same Bilbo from the beginning is it? 'cause he's not the same scared hobbit. Is he a different hobbit named Bilbo? are the alot of Hobbits named Bilbo running around this side of the mountains?"

Hey, warn me about the spoiler, next time!

I've actually read the series several times. I've gotten into a habit of reading them every summer or so. No particular reason I read them in the summer; that's just when I start feeling inclined to re-read the books.

A recent discussion with Erik Scott de Bie and Red Walker in another scroll has reminded me that I really need to establish a reread-routine for Erik's books. So I'm following his official chronological order for reading the various 'Shadowbane' books. This will be the first time I'll read them in the order he has suggested.

I'm quite excited by this, actually, because I may just pick up on stuff that I've missed in my initial readings.

You can find it on Erik's website, here, along with links to freely available PDFs for some of the short story tales in the series.
