Just thinking... with spells and sneak attack (level 8 rogue with uncanny trickster)skill tricks and the right build, this PC/NPC could possibly put Entreri to shame. Same level as E. 18 right? |

Im a huge fan of Salvatore and Artemis by default, but he's just a man...well half-shade now. None of the characters, from Drizzt to Elminster are unbeatable, even moreso Game-wise. Drizzt (whos skill rivals Artemis') is often struck by simple orcs and goblins in his tales and while he always prevails, its that skilled-yet-in-danger writing style that appeals to me. I cant see anyone (well...ok, maybe Elminster) not having their pulse race at the thought of facing some of the more well-known deadly creatures such as werewolves and vampires, even if they are so under-done stat and gamewise. Atremis may be famed for slaying powerful wizards and kings but i think even he might Hide in Shadows if he sees those fangs glinting in the moonlight. |

Interesting thread but I'm confused; what's the point? Are we to come up with our own idea on how to beat Entreri (race, class, buold, etc.) Or suggest ideas with the build in ur suggestion? |

You got it... build your own PC/NPC on the simple stats I gave. This alone should make a PC/NPC that would make Entreri squeel. Complete Scoundrel alone gives so many options that it's silly in game terms. |

Gotcha, but I should point out that "legally" the build isn't possible since the character's Alignment is Chaotic Neutral when the prerequisites for Assassin prestige class require an Evil alignment. Don't know if that matters or not, but I figured I'd throw that out there as a FYI. But aside from that, I'll see what I can work with within the build and have something pretty soon. I'm assuming that you want a pretty strong write-up, like the ones I do here?
EDIT: Also forgot to ask, are we assuming Wealth by Level? |

My only question is- why exactly would this PC put Artemis to shame? A PC is only as good as his reputation and history. IE- in other words, only as good as his adventuring career. Could be the greatest build in the history of D&D, but if the player can't PLAY it properly, it's worthless- not to mention dead. Entreri is alive because he's GOOD at what he does, not because he's got the best "skill set" or "tricks" or even spells (he has none). Novel characters anre'n built for the perfect skill-set or game mechanics, but for personality and physical and mental capabilities. In other words, they're more like REAL people, where a game PC is just a stat block. Moreover, you create a great and memorable character by telling their story FIRST, not by building their game-stats. Just a thought. |

Don't forget that Entreri has almost supernatural Eye-Hand coordination (noted in Hall of Heroes IIRC) which is a big contributing factor on why he was able to hang with Drizzt in their 1 on 1 battles. Anyone else fighting with a sword/dagger against Drizzt with 2 swords would be hard pressed indeed. |

@ Imp- true enough, but remember that both Drizzt and Entreri were novel characters FIRST. And neither has ever been played by Salvatore as a PC. That says something for me. The only reason they even have stat blocks was so that folks could use them as NPC's in their games. I've personally used Drizzt a couple of times, but never Entreri. Assassins are tricky characters anyway, simply because of their profession/specialization. they're only really useful in urban campaigns or as scouts. Same with ninjas or some other classes. |

A Kender. With or without the guns and kegs of gunpowder (God bless Bags of Holding!). Strip away all the nice behavior (Good Alignments, childlike demeanors, etc) and you have the Joker. Fearless and willing to do the most insane things ever conceived just for a laugh. For God's sake, they can make even ogres cry! |
