Not to mention that there is something vaguely disturbing about a kid who just spends all his time wandering around trying to catch wild animals and make them fight captive critters of other kids. That's the sort of thing that got Michael Vick into so much trouble.... Plus, don't these kids ever go to school?!?! WHERE are the PARENTS? (Gah, that show is wrong on so many levels it's not even funny.) At least Yugi was just playing cards after school- until the games got REAL.... (Personally, I like the manga better. Yami was a real bad-a$$ in it, and pretty ruthles. That shadow game with the escaped convict in the diner was just wicked!) |

I couldn't stand Yu-Gi-Oh. It gives me the 'for-kids-only' vibe. I watched a couple of Pokemon episodes because Pikachu is cute, but didn't really complete the series. |

Ah, you must have seen the "sanitized" version. Granted, the artoons (at least in the states) were geared for kids, but the manga most certainly is not! (A scene of Joey and Yugi discussing a "video" Joey had borrowed for them to watch comes to mind. Not to mention Yugi's grandpa peeking under Tea's skirt, and looking at her bust while saying how much she's grown! Talk about a dirty old man! It's quite a bit more adult than Pokemon, at least in the first couple of seasons. I stopped watching when they started GX, so I don't know about anything after that. |

Probably trying to appeal to the horny otaku crowd. Frankly I think that sort of "fan service" is completely inappropriate in a show like Fairy Tail. I mean my little cousin brother watches that for Gods sake. |

I do like the series, but there's a bunch of crap in it that brings out the beast in me, mainly that reporter whose vocabulary is limited to "cool" (and he's the total opposite of that word) and the constant focus on Lucy's anatomy, particularly her legs and giant boobs.
They should give Happy more screen time to make us all, well, happy. Right? |

True enough. But that sort of focus on female anatomy is in practically every manga nowadays. Heck its in practically every form of media nowadays.

Not in Hunter X Hunter nor in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. And it's not because they lack sexy females. |

Watching Nikita and enjoying it so far. Nearly perfect cast, interesting plot (rehashed with some nice alterations), and an appealing female lead who can act and kick some ass. Shane West, unfortunately, is hardly convincing, though. Since when did he do action? He's fine in romantic roles. But action? Hah! You can judge it yourself.
Now on episode 4. |

He played a young doctor on ER, who got depressed when he couldn't get the girl, got drunk, rode his motorcycle out into the night, and lost his legs or something. Does that count?
Oh, and he played adult Tom Sawyer on League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, as well.

ER is not action. More like family drama.
He's the lead actor in the limited-release Echelon Conspiracy, an action/espionage film adapted from Robert Ludlum's classic novel by the same title. But his role is more geek than a butt-kicking tough guy. |

I have recently started watching Big Bang theory in the last few months, and I gotta say, I LOVE the geek humor! Finally, a show where not only do I relate to the characters on a personal level of interests (I love it when they talk comics!), but the jokes are a cut above the usual banal potty humor and simple catty remarks posing as banter. I especially love Sheldon's complete lack of understanding of social conventions and relationships. He's so clueless I can't help but laugh.
Interestingly, this led to a debate between the hubby and myself over the orientations of some of the characters on the show. Leonard is a given- he's still hopelessly smitten with Penny. Sheldon we have gone back and forth on. My man thinks he's a closet gay, while I lean toward a completely asexual personality. The jury is still out on the other two. Roger seems to overcompensate, and I can't even figure out the other one's problem, LOL! |

I guess it depends on your sense of humor. I am also something of a science nut, so the show works for me on several levels that most others don't. I'm more fond of "intelligent" humor over the usual run of fat jokes, gay jokes, and plain old potty humor. And some of their discussion sound REALLY familiar, too. I frequently end up laughing at conversations they have that are similar to ones my hubby and I might have had, almost on a deja'vu level. Like talking about Frosty being prosecuted for a stolen hat! Hmmm, now WHERE have I heard THAT before....?
That's one thing I like about it- I never know what they're going to say. And it's usually something weird, but funny. Not like say, The Office, where all the humor is dry and basically boring, old, and overdone, IMHO. I can't stand that one. 30 Rock is only marginally better. I usually pass both of those by without stopping on the remote. "Family" sitcoms are not much better, since there have been dozens of them, and all basically about the same issues and problems. Done to death. But people who are smart, nerdy, and have major hang-ups socially, emotionally, or mentally? I can certainly relate on some of that.
Living in a small town where very few share similar interests or views, and the average IQ is probably about 100 can be downright frustrating for someone with a very active mind, unusual hobbies, and higher than usual vocabulary. There's only so much talk of livestock or heavy machinery one can endure in a rural town.... |

Given my current financial situation and the type of work I'm in, that's not likely to happen. Especially in the current job market- it took me nearly a year and a half just to find work here! And although I'd love to move back to a larger city, (I live about an hour north of Fort Worth Texas, and out here, that translates to being in BFE...) that would mean not only finding a new job, but living in an area of higher expenses. And my hubby is now unable to work for health reasons, so- yeah... We're stuck here for the forseeable furture. |

I saw him at Gencon, but I didn't bother to talk to him. I was too infatuated with Uhura. She remembered me from the last time we 'met'.
I was dying to go up to him and say "Whil Wheaton" (like Stuey from Family Guy - he must hate that). |

Well, then there's the fact that he was the youngest brigde-crew member, and a teenager in an environment of mostly adults. That HAD to be a hard place to try to fit in and be taken seriously! I always kinda felt sorry for him, being stuck around all those adults treating him like akid just getting in the way- especially Picard, who we all know was not overly fond of kids to begin with. Sheesh! Tough crowd.... |

Just finished watching the entire first season of Nikita. Wow. Simply amazing. Great plot in every episode, with a couple of unexpected twists. The action scenes are well-choreographed and made convincing, just like that scene where Nikita had to fight an assassin four times her body mass. She's a damn strong fighter, but she could hardly budge that agent (and that's really how it should be, otherwise, it'd be close to being sci-fi), and so she resorted to some improvised weapon to gain the upper hand. I commend the whole cast, main and supporting alike. Percy and Amanda you'd love to hate; Alex you'd sympathize with; Michael (I now understand why Shane West was chosen for this role) you'd eventually come to understand and sympathize with, too. And Nikita, well, you'd be simply amazed.
Now on to the first episode of Season 2... |

Am watching Code Geass myself. Its a very good anime about a young prince out to destroy his fathers kingdom for revenge. A very grey hero, at times he is outright evil. All that and it has giant robots. |

I just finished watching Season 2 of Nikita. This show never runs out surprises. Everything's changing, including Amanda. [In Season 1, the “worst” torture she did was show Nikita a video of her and her deceased fiance being cuddly. And now suddenly she's turned “dark”...I hate seeing Nerd hurt. Hehe.] If there's anything that doesn't change, it's dear old Percy. You'd continue to love to hate him, right till the end. And his winning line: “People wanna believe God has a plan for them. They don't wanna know that anyone else does.” And Alex's: “Butterflies are God's proof that we can have a second life.”
Nikita's personality has been peeled off layer by layer, and we get to see a part of her that she's buried deep within, so the people she cares about would never see it, fearing that such trait might make them hate her.
Non-stop action, well-connected plots (almost better than the first Season), and a great cast make this series a true winner! |
Every beginning has an end. |

Still pretty early to tell how this one's going to turn out in terms of popularity and staying power, but I hope it sticks around a while.
I hadn't even heard a new series was in production.

Loosely based on the older series, at least it looks that way. It's on CW after Vampire Diaries, (at least here) and is about an ex-military guy who was a subject of a top-secret experiment. The other "subjects" involved went nuts, the project got scrapped, and all of them (execpt him) were killed and the deaths blamed on a terrorist group. Or something like that. Ten years later, he's discovered again by a cop whose mother had been murdered a couple of years before present time in a car-jacking and had almost been shot herself- except that he had stepped in and stopped the killer- and she had seen him. Now she's trying to help him stay hidden while he helps her find the murderer. And there's some romance, some interesting genetic developments, and.... Ah, just watch it Sage- it's the kind of series that is low-key but good. |
