I wonder if Telamont has some sort of fundamental power over his Princes Shade, some (thus far) unbreakable magic or something akin to controlling their shadowy phylacteries. Given their generally evil (or at least inhumanly ruthless) nature, I have to wonder why the twelve Princes are so pliant to Telamont's will. Certainly Telamont has managed to subjugate them all and play each against the other at different times ... but I think his edge is not such a great advantage compared to their dozens of millennia of collective experience. Does their fear of Telamont exceed their ambitions?
He's playing each against the other, Hadrhune included. I can't remember which prince belongs to what faction, but (vaguely) it's (1) Rivalen, Yder, Mattick, Vattick, and (used to be) Brennus; (2) Aglarel and others; (3) Clariburnus and others; and (4) Hadrune against everyone. Only Melegaunt and Dethud are neutral.
Besides that, I think he has some control over their soul/spirit. Otherwise, he wouldn't have allowed Rivalen to absorb Mask's divinity and become an exarch, which, technically, should have put him above his father. |

I don't think its a 'phylactory thing'.
If anything its more like a Vampire Lord - he is able to exert his will over those he has created. Thats not canon (and certainly not something Shades by RAW can do), but Telemont - as we've already proven - is far from being "just a normal Shade".
For instance, suppose he 'assisted' in the Shadowing process that made the Princes Shades (nothing - AFAIK - says they were born Shades), and at that time, he infused them with just a tiny bit of his own shadow. That would do the trick. |

Well, in the first place, they don't have phylacteries.
Telamont assigned certain archwizards to facilitate the process of turning one worthy Netherese into a shade (Is there a term for it? Shading?). But it wasn't mentioned if he himself participated in such undertaking. Though it's an interesting possibility that did when it was his sons' turn to be transformed. |
