If you look through the source code you'll also note subtle hints that something new is on the way, possibly a re-release of some sort of the classic games.

A few days ago, someone noticed that Baldur's Gate related items were appearing in the Steam registry, hinting at the fact that the games might be released there. See this forum thread there, link; http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2491920

And over on Reddit there's a discussion tracking the various hints hidden in the source code of the site, which seem to change frequently. Link; http://www.reddit.com/r/baldursgate/comments/qa658/official_website_update/

Praying to Tymora that it's something like a HD re-release, or even the fabled BG3, though I'll settle for the games released with some compatibility with modern OSs and hardware.

What for? I like the Infinity Engine.

Because the Infinity Engine doesn't play particular well with modern resolutions, graphics cards, etc.

there is a classic combo dvd/cd that has bg 1/2 and iwd1/2 and the toee on it... maybe this has something to do with it.....

I also know the nwn2 mod version of iwd is nearing its release... not so much the bg nwn2 mod though...

but it would be interesting if that modul became a standalone.....

I hope they release a BG3 or some stand alone modules/campaigns with Infinity Engine. They can start a kickstarter to fund money and buy the licences!

I'm betting the speculation about it being a tablet version is accurate.

I'm thinking it's an HD remake like MDK2.

What does HD stand for in this instance?

Doggedly converting 3e back to what D&D should be...
Sigh... And now 4e as well.

I cannot imagine what the plot of a third Baldur's Gate game would be. Unless it was a new plot unrelated to Bhaalspawn. ...which would make sense since it is named after a city!

It would be a bit odd to have a BG game without the Bhaalspawn. On the other hand, it's not like having the BG name on it kept them from wandering in other directions. BG2 doesn't come anywhere near the Gate, after all.

1) HD re-release or 2) phones port would be nice.

But note that both are actually being done.

1) Dragon Age BG redux or NWN 2 Baldur's Gate remake
2) GemRB

P.S. I looked at the site and see nothing of the sort...

A lot of speculation teased by Trent Oster (see his Twitter-Account: https://twitter.com/#!/TrentOster ) - even they will re-release the good ol' games, I will buy them, regardless of price.

But if they're about to do something new - which edition will they use? Can you imagine Baldur's Gate with 4E? Or 5E, if it takes a while to develop…?

I've lost track of recent realmslore, since my campaigns are still in the 1370ies. :-)

Some clues are written in the source code of the web page (right-click -> View Page Source);

First commentary lines;

<!-- February 29, 2012 -->
<!-- Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine -->

<!-- Take heart fellow adventurers, for you have curried the favor of Boo, the only miniature giant space hamster in the Realm! -->

So, infinity engine... this'll be interesting.

Last line of commentary;

<!-- I can teach you how to use your wrath. -->

Which is a Sarevok quote, which doesn't give any hint but is kinda cool.

They updated.

<!-- March 5, 2012 -->
<!-- Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine -->

<!-- "She left me to die. YOU left me to die. But Shar... Shar wanted me to live." -->

And in the end:
<!-- "If you wish me dead, brother, it must be by your hand. No one else." -->

I'm too scared to speculate.

One of the recruitable NPCs, the drow, Viconia DeVir, was a cleric of Shar. It's a quote from her character.

Having Shar being named on there actually confirmed my suspecions I've had earlier. This is a couple of the earlier quotes from the site:

"Love is a lie, only hate endures."
"As the silver moon waxes and wanes, so too does life."

The first one is, if you've read the Twilight Wars trilogy, a Sharran chant.
The second one might be a possible reference to Selune, and her struggle against Shar.

So I'm thinking, maybe they're planning on finally bringing the eternally waging war between Shar and Selune into a game? =D

But with our luck, it'll probably just be another Facebook game =(

Ah right. I burned her at the stake in my play through and didn't get to see her say that.

What do you mean in your play through? Are you saying you have only played it once!!!

Lol I am. I played the original more than once tho. I tend to do very thorough complete play throughs with one character (invoker specialist mage) and then can't find the time to revisit.

I have it from GoG on my gaming laptop now tho, so next time I get a good break from work/social life/volunteering I'll try to play my monk. I think there's a mod to make a monk playable from BG1 to end of Throne of Bhaal.

I suspect it's a port for iOS (or perhaps most current mobile game platforms), which won't be making me crap my pantaloons, but it does shine some light on the BG games again (which can lead to good things).
