Me and my circle of friends used to simply get together and play DnD about every weekend and have fun and all that jazz. Well due to my favorite player/DM(Belfar) moving to a differant state we were forced to find a new way to play. We looked to the online to find a new way to play and found several pretty yet utterly useless programs for playing DnD online. Right now were playing in Mirc with a dice bot but we desperately need a battlemap or grid program. most of the oter players are to simple to play without pictures so ive come to the keep in search of help. What programs for online DnD(PnP) do you recommend? i really need your help on this one.please respond.

I hate to be the bringer of sad recommendations but if I was you, I'd let your "lost player" go and move on.
Regardless of how good the software is, it'll never be the same as face-to-face - you're trying to find something that doesn't exist. I know. Having played D & D (in all variations and incarnations) for almost 30 years (most while I was serving in the Army) I can sympathise with you. It's never easy when you lose a party member.
Instead of looking for software to keep your "lost player" in the party, look instead for a replacement. This will also mean that he/she will be encouraged to do the same where they have moved to.

Well we have had some trouble playing online but I like the way we have been doing it. It really isn't all that hard to play online because I record everyone's movements but I know it isn't as easy. I've found a new group for face to face that is going very well. I'll try to come up there one of these days to play face to face with you. Its only a two hour drive. |

Well fine then. I found a better group anyways. And you really need to get your computer fixed so we can play NWN and keep playing online. And a note for everyone out there - *We are kidding around so don't take what we say to each other too seriously* |

I know the fealing RougeAsassin, me and my friend playe every week when wwe went at highsscool but then everyone moved avway to different parts of Norway due to differnts reasons (mostly because of the army, there are mandatory service in norway)but now the few times we all are together we have the best times ever around the table with dices, pizza and monsters.
I would imagen that playing over the net, when youre used to face-to-face is kind of boring, but as you say it works fine for you.

Well we tried out the OpenRPG program but it seemed too complicated to suit our needs. We dropped the online play since one of the player's computers went down. They seemed to have reformed the old face to face group by adding a few more people. I've also found a very good face to face group so we are all happy. Thanks for the information though. |

I know this adds nothing, but I have seen this topic here for a few days and been thinking:
Couldn't "Trouble off the offline" have the same meaning as the title? I have said this every time I see it and felt compelled to say it. |

It is a play on the duality of there being only two places: online and offline. But indeed it is off topic. Or off the on topic. |

It is always a pain when a group breaks up. I keenly what it is like, as my original (and often boasted of) group broke up several yers ago. We were one of those groups that started in high school and all eight of us played pretty religiously through to college graduation. We have all broken up now, but we still get together every year, often at liek GenCon these days, to play a game. Honestly, there is nothing int he world like playing with a bunch of idiots you played with when you were a teenager; man the stories I could (but won't tell). Great, now this topic has made me sad. I need a drink. |
