And that is quite enough of that, from all players. We do not need to resort to name-calling, and we don't need to continue being utterly dismissive of anyone who holds a different opinion.

I don't care if you love the 4E Realms or prefer an earlier edition. Be civil about it. Be respectful.

Well, Wooly, I think it's about loving the Realms or not! It's not the '4e realms', it's 'THE REALMS'! Everybody who is splitting it up into little pieces really get my goat! The 'Realms Up Until 1385' is not the REAL REALMS!

And this is what pisses people off: dismissing the opinions of others and saying, "No, I'm playing the real Realms, you're not!"

We need a hell of a lot less of that, from all sides.

Yeah, from *ALL* sides! I doubt that people who claim they 'won the Edition Wars' will be turning down their self-directed accolades, or relenting in their attacks (right when it will have the most impact) any time soon, though!!

Geez!
I join Candlekeep, think it's really neat and has cool Realmslore but I think a lot of people have an anti new Realms perspective here, the Moderators jump all over me, I provide a poll that indicates it's true, then Matt James says it's true and no one messes with him and geez! this is hard to deal with!

Then the new Realms is announced the next day! Man, this is a rought life@!

We are ALL discussing the Realms here, on this site, because we are all Realms fans.

We are also highly opinionated.

I am sorry if you find it offensive that so many did not like 4e, but thats just how it is. I personally think Picasso is crap, but millions of people love it (and pay dearly for it). One man's meat is another man's poison.

And I really shouldn't go down this road - and I can't understand why certain people are actually trying very hard to turn this into an edition war - but seriously, it wasn't the material itself that was so terrible, it was the attitude ("we know whats best for you") and the very poor presentation (both lackluster roll-out and piss-poor editing) that turned so many off. A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. We were force-fed our 'medicine' with a firehose.

So don't blame it on lack of talent, but blame it on lack of business savvy. Paizo can 'sell icecubes to Eskimoes', in spades. Even if they did produce a crap product, their fans would lap it up. You need to analyze how they managed THAT. people here go on and on about "1e this" and "2e that" and "3e was the bomb", but you know what? Most of it was drivel, pure drivel. I stopped buying the books until after I read them, just because of Races of Stone - and yet, 3e was my favorite edition to date. You want to see utter crap? Look at some of those 1e modules.

Now that I have said all that, ask yourself, if it isn't because of the quality (or lack thereof), then why-oh-why do so many find issue with 4e? You can tell yourself its because we have 'bad taste', but the truth is, we know how poorly written most game supplements were written - we just chose to overlook it.

Because we are fans.

Now you go back and figure out the real reason we disliked it so much, because I agree whole-heartedly it had almost nothing to do with talent.

EDIT: And I promised myself I wouldn't do this. Apologies all around. We need to move-on, and help them help us.

Edit 2: General scrollkeeping issues.

Picasso does suck. So does Monet... looks good from far away, but up close it's all just a big mess.

Well, I think my time in this thread has run its course. I've said what I wanted to say--offered and defended what I think is the best solution. I have, of course, meant no ill-will toward anyone. This has been a compelling discussion, and I leave everyone with the best of wishes.

Cheers

Is this scroll about done?

Star Trek, assassin and even an author.

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."

Oh, yes, the poll is very accurate... considering it's polled the ENTIRE community of scribes here at Candlekeep. Yes, very accurate indeed.

Congratulations on proving your point. [BTW, I think it's clear to almost everyone here at Candlekeep, just what you're proving with commentary like this. And it probably isn't what you'd suspect.]

Yes, it must be a hard lot to always play the victim for the so-called offences of others. You've my sympathy.

Well, *I'm* just so glad to see so many supporters of the whole Realms setting popping up in this thread! If I had the impression that Candlekeep was 'anti-Realms development', well, I certainly must reevaluate those views now!

And to think, I generated polls on the topic less than a week ago...

BYE!

Indeed. Less than a week is a decent amount of time to accurately gauge the opinions of the whole Candlekeep community regarding a ill-defined question.

Yes, it's so wrong to be asked to be civil. Gosh, and to think we ask this of everyone, even the people that we agree with 100%...
