This may sound odd. But im going to say mage. Why? because in the realms mages get shafted the most when it comes to distrust. They have nots placed upon their hands called peace knots. As well as most wands and such taken from them in towns where peace knots are used. However no one takes away a monks firsts, nor do they take away a fighters. Most would never dream of trying to depart a barbarian and his axe. Regaurdless theives are shown more respect then a mage in the long run. Its only when a mage is very powerful that he even starts to get respect. Even then people probably have never heard of you unless you actually get up and do something. mages also tend to have trouble with simple animals. A cat can kill a mage in 2 turns. Poor mages huh? But its true. A small horde of grey squrriels (SP?) can easily come along and bite the mage in a swarm, dead. And thats when the mage is around 7-8th level. Your not going to see a fighter or even a theif with that trouble.

Bah, mages can be only be killed by a little hord of sqirrels in 7ht to 8th lv if they have like 10 in consitution and not cast any spells, but if you dont cast spells with a mage why have him?

Thats also easy to answer. How do you plan to kill a horde of critters biting on you? Thats one big concentration roll dont you think? Not only that but thats an auto one dmg each bite cause its clung onto you. And since they are so small they can each occupy more then one part of a mage and his square. What would you do anyway? Cast fire ball on yourself? Yeah thats a great Idea. More then opne mage has already fallen to the critter attack.

And wrong the bar is not Cal. Infact they are probably just giving you crap about being a bard because its tradition to. Bards are actually the uber class. Far to easy to make one a very good char. They have theif fighter and mages parts to them. They can cast divinations ( some) and arcane spells. Their song ability can be used WHILE they fight, IE- A skuld. A viking battle bard. All you have to do is make them realize your the man thy da bishes. Not only that but bards gets the women and mens...

Cast a fireshield on yourself and the most of them will cill them self, if you are spesiald classed yoou can also cast stoneskin and they can almost not hurt you, and if you take a good throw you can cast a fireball in a way that makes it not hurt you since you are out of range. those that remains, if any, you can kill the with magic missil. Now thats a good recipfor how to kill a horde of sqirrels

Jeez, Cult Leader, what the heck happened to your grammar? You're typing like another person there. Not at all your usual 'voice.'

Some people might find it interesting that the predecessor to Jack Archer was a monk. Yep, I've done a crossover character before, for an old fanfic I did before I got all the stats, 3e or otherwise. I switched to a fencer rather than a martial artist when I created Jack, though, because I'd been interested in fencing at the time and had been wanting to do a Duelist character.

Sometime I'm going to do a paladin. I see paladins not as annoying crusaders, but rather as a possibility for a really spiritual character. This guy would be more focused on defending those who needed it than actually going out and destroying evil. He'd also not be annoyingly visible; more of a background character. (I do find it annoying when paladins are all "I shall smite thee, evildoer!")

Unfortunately, a 'prerequisite' for 2e paladins...

Well, I just don't think it's necessary to play the class like that all the time. It seems that the paladin almost has to be a person in heavy, polished armor, a two-handed sword in one hand, charging at a dragon or a horde of orcs simply because they're there.

I think there would have to be a lot of paladins out there who wouldn't be so warlike, for one thing, and would be focused on healing or somesuch. Aiding the helpless, serving as impartial mediators. (Okay, so a character as Lawful Good as a paladin can't ever be truly impartial. Most laws are put up as an effort for good; most goodly folk obey goodly laws. In that context, I'd say a paladin would be pretty impartial.)

I'm not sure how this character would be played. I'd have to make final decisions based on the level of the character and (likely) where he is and hails from. I play my characters as dynamic personalities, who are likely to change. (Note, please, that this does not necessarily mean Chaotic characters.) I usually consider, when making a character, that every three levels (s)he has, there was a chance for a major life change. I don't always pick them all, or even one, but it's one example.

Actually I made that a delineation for Paladin PCs in my FR campaigns, as well as other setting. Whether by just general mood and attitude, or by specialised feats, or even a PrC or three...I made my players aware that the Paladin's role in society is many and varied. Among some of these various types are - diplomat Paladins, civil administrator Paladins, judicial authority Paladins, and the most recent addition (and a unique creation only for a particular setting), imperial overseer Grand Master Paladin.

In fact until I introduced these 'changes' in my campaigns...the Paladin class was becoming a virtually extinct choice of PC among my players...

I can definitely supply some of the feats I used, and one of the PrC (mentioned in another scroll), but the general attitudes and mood are entirely up to the DM, and Players to generate...Sorry all...I can't do EVERYTHING...

Btw the way stone skin does not effect damage just negates a number of hits. So each squrreil your trying to fry with a fire ball, Keeping in mind the little critters are already biting you and taking your stone skin away very fast, Probably one or two turns, is going to leave you to be hit by the fire ball as well. Sides my little critters would have some disease thus maskign them mad thus poisoning you. So burn yourself and waste two spells heh.

How so? Im not to sure what you mean by that? Umm, could it be because my grammar was better on that day? yeah it happens now and then. I get good grammar for a day and I pay for it the rest of the week with even worse grammar. I get that way. Some type of learning disability (sp?). Kind of sucks but meh I deal with it.

Again. Thats still a big concentration role. Keep in mind that you will probably fail your perception check due to the fact that they are tiny animals. When they run they actually do not make sound ( Trust me I used to hunt them), as well as being in their home turf. That alone make sit harder to deal with them mister mage who belongs in the city would more then likely fail his roll to see them. Then the fun starts. THey pounce on you and cling to you. And each turn they auto hit. So thats at least 10-20 of them on you that auto hit each turn because theu are clining to you. Which, sence it auto hits takes away one of your stone skins. Thats wearing down your stone skin fast thats even to say that you could cast it while they are chewing on your face off! All in all you have to keep in mind your more likely to fail a perception check and a concentrations roll in that given situation. Not to mention but who is to say your more worried about grabbing your spell components then grabbing your face and arms because your being chewed?

That's were wands come in. No need to realy check just aim at your feet and fire. WHOOSH! It all goes up, critters, mage, grass.... pun not intended... But as long as you toast the buggers, who really cares if you survive or not. You may be dead but at least you took them with you. Now THAT the smell of victory, Roasted Squirrel and Charred Flesh.
