 Remember that time that u thought that the best character you had ever made was surely about to meet her untimely demise? The heroic battle that insued? I just wanted to hear some of the tales from the patrons of candlekeep. What are your most heroic battles, magical encounters or bone chilling tales?

| Well from what I can recall I would go with a more recent encounter. My group; a dwarf cleric, drow rogue, human wizard, human swashbuckler, half-orc barbarian, and myself the Purple Dragon knight; encountered a (pause for dramatic effect) ................ EYE TYRANT!!! We had an average level of 7 and this was gonna be a tough fight. When we chased the creature into its lair we were beaten down horribly. The tyrant petrified the swashbuckler and the wizard and had the drow cowering in a corner. Well we had damaged the creature pretty bad but we felt that all hope was lost. The dwarf took one last change and threw his axe at the creature. Needless to say that was the killing blow. We cheered and nearly flipped the table. That would have to be my most memorable encounter. |

| Well thats actually very simple to say. In our games we normally allow people to do the old second edition thing. Where you can stop being one class, keep the abilities and such and start all over in a new one. You keep everythign that you had but you start over. We also rp having to go up in levels and such. We dont just down time it heh. So it all works for us. Anyway. Basically I took an old secret from 2nd ed called the Tripple didget man. Far asier to make in second ed then third. However, with the correct combo and such. You can have a char with a tripple didget ac. Yes. I fought the terasq. I didnt win, but I didnt loose either. I slowly parried like a mofo and led him to a goat farm. Then i got out of dodge. Now thats a battle. |

Triple-digit AC? In second edition? And I thought it was cool when I got one of my Icewind Dale party members down to -14 AC!  |

hehe... i recall getting my AC in like Secret of the Silver Blades, or maybe Pools of darkness to lower than -14... i'd have to load up the game to see how low i got it... but i ticked off my brother cause i used my chars from Secret of the SilverBlades to transfer (with their loverly silver +5 shields and swords... muhahaha) to Pools of Darkness... that's how i got so low...
as for memorable battle... yeah... how about the time i went out and found that terrasque, gave it a swift kick in the #$%@ and it went running home to it's mommy :P hehe j/k |

My memorable battle was when our party had encountered a Hill Giant. My char. a first level rogue half hobgoblin half elf learned an important lesson that day. She was the closest and swung her sword at the hill giant. She really didn't do any damage. The hill giant turned on her and slung her back against a stone wall and she was knocked out for the rest of the fight. When she awoke she had a terrible headache , but won't try that again. At least she distracted him enough for the other party members to get off their spells. |

Well feary godess some learn only after they appreciate the experiece of dying, at least you were luck to survive.
A player of mine did encounter a very ferious enchanter he was 6th level but he couldn't save himself from that magical grip. he was our hero and his hero role play but I didn't show him no mercy and while the other member of the group were fighting a simple buckler cut his throat everyone mourned for him. But I laughed and laughed. Well that s my story take care of yourselves pathatic heroes

| One time I camed to a dwarfen stronghold who keep orcs a slaves and treated them realy bad so me the heroic hero begun to attack the dwarfs with his mighty sword. The mage and the cleric come after with some spells, but when I attacked the dwarfs the orcs also attacked me so I ended up killing them all. So much for the heroic me. |

I just find that a little 'out-of-character' for Dwarves...The Dwarven race as a whole tend to be Lawful, and usually good - not usually a common trait for a slave-keeping species. Were these particular Dwarves a subrace or something?.

There are numerous encounters I remember 'fondly', but I think one of my favorites was the "Deliberate Guaranteed Death Dragon (TM)" encounter. This was a long time ago, of course, maybe 1991...my memory is fuzzy, I'd have to look, but it was when I was playing with my original group. Around that time our DM had grown a penchant for creating situations where parties were deliberately destoryed. Of course, being the fair person he was, he always gave us a sporting chance, that is a slim to nill chance of survival (if there is not a chance in surviving, what's the fun?). In any case, Edain was the only PC of our original party to survive thus far (my lucky d20 still sits on my desktop, in easy reach) mostly from a sting of unmitigated luck, like rolling six straight 18 for statistics.
In anycase, my DM decided it was high time Edain died. So, along comes the ungodly powerful red dragon encounter. A discharge of his breath, a slash here and there, and bam poor Edain he's almost dead. Of course then I, as it was so eloquently put, "cheated", and snapped my staff. Boom. Bye-bye dragon. Good times. |

| i have had so many it is hard 2 choose only 1 but 1 of the best was when i fought Dace Sontan in my current game of BG2...so im in dialogue with him n hes boasting about how hes gunna kill me, so we end dialogue n i have Minsc equipped with Azuredge, lol i have him hurl the thing at him, Dace gets hit and dies, he moved mabe 1 step 2ward me, it was sooo awesome. i was like "Minsc i love u!!!" |

Pfffttt...pay no attention to elf behind the curtain. You may of course use the ecounter, so long as you make sure the dragon has more hitpoints than a retributive strike, otherwise you are out of luck. Also, remember it's fun to give the PCs a 'sporting' chance, that is, make killing them a sport. But seriously, it would be fun if I could play with a DM like that again, those were good times.
Also, as an aside, after Edain killed the dragon (and lived, did I forget to mention that?) my DMs exact words were something like, "Alright, I give up. Either retire or I will light you character sheet on fire. This is you final warning". I threw my dice at his head. Everyone laughed. The DM then smiled, for it was good. And funny.
Now that I think of it the "Never ending slime pit trap (TM)" is also a funny one. But, I think that was kind of a "You had to be there to get it" moment. |

...Ah ha...
I wouldn't worry too much about the "Never ending slime pit trap (TM)" for others to use...any experienced DM would have run at least one of those from time to time...I know I have...

| I have never ran into a never ending slime trap. However we have come across a greed trap. In a cave in a valcano,"JUST" because our cleric had never been there. He piked out this islan valcano like place. And said. HEY LETS GO THERE!!. So off we went on our jolly ways to find this place where everyone was afraid to go. But us adventurers? Oh hell no went swam right on up there. Then our boat left us.The NPC Barbarian took to trying to swim to the main land to get us help. Its our theroy tat he was ate by a shark. Anyway we all left to go explore. We found these odd portals ... that you could only go one way through. You also needed a necklace for it. Well. Two people walked fully through a gate. And. The necklace "poofed" back intot he room the rest of the party was in. Well we said forget them ( they eneded up in the beast lands LOL). We moved along and Our theif found a pool of water with gold and such in it. Down intot he water he went and up he swam. Once out of the water he had found his beloved gold. Then he found out he also had rot wyrms or whatever they are called. The worms that soon as they hit your ac start eating you and the only way to get rid of them is to burn them. Sadly. We cured him he got affected again then dead. And the mage who had touched him caused the cleric and I to get the worms as well. So .... in my last ditch effort of being evil, with my massive 18s ( rolled straight down ... I had good luck when making the char, 18/90,18,18,12,13,16 I ran grabbed the necklace and used my main weapon ( a grappling hook) to hook the two party members pull them to me, And give them a hug while screaming out madly.... Yeah. Thems were the good old days .... god 3893674 clerics!! |

My most memorable encounter was when my char Earundil and the other 5 of the party ended up in a situation where we could fight in the battle or just go and sneak around and kill the leaders....well i had leadership and i figured if i fought in the battle then i could get a little more blood on my sword. So there i am in the middle of a host of Purple dragon knights, stareing down the throat of an army of orcs. The battle took hours and hours but in the end i came out with 29 more nitches on my belt and a nift new sword.
p.s. never do that... i had 8 followers all of em died and my cohort, not good for your reputation. |
