Rosemary indeed wrote all four parts. I was lucky enough to get to consult with her (particularly since I'd done all that Neverwinter design), and happen to know that her story is pretty awesome. Which is unsurprising, as Rosemary is pretty awesome regardless. 
I highly recommend you all check this out!

She is great talent we are lucky s writing in the realms and a sweetheart as well....her prior two realms novels along with her bookplates and handwritten notes, are among the jewels of all the things I own.
Erik....do you know if is a novel in four parts...,at least size wise? I hate do it....but I'm trying to compare values between this, novels and e novels.....in case this is a new major direction for realms fiction.

As far as I know, it's a novella serialized in four parts, each part about 8k-10k. Rosemary herself would have the full story.
And it seems to me this as much an experiment with e-publishing as putting out my novel Shadowbane as ebook only.

I couldn't tell you for sure, Sage. I think WotC is experimenting with the form to see if it works out--if so, then they might very well be producing a goodly number of these excellent pieces.
This ties in with our thread about short fiction. I've contacted the book department about it, and they've been looking into the idea for some time, and are pleased to have feedback from outside their warded walls.

I thoroughly enjoyed City of the Dead. Out of all the Waterdeep Novels, I think I only liked Mistshore and Downshadow more. |

Good to hear.
I must admit that I'm coming to like the idea of Realms novella, especially if it's based as supportive material for other stories or events, like the whole "Neverwinter" phase of development going on right at this moment.

Well met
The problem i'm seeing with this venture is that being an Amazon.co.uk user, I am unable to purchase and download these titles, as they are only available on Amazon.com. ::grumble::
Furthermore, the current listings for Part 1 and 2 state "No pricing information" on Amazon.com. I'm not sure if this is that perhaps the site is detecting my geographical location or if this is an issue with the product listing. Has anyone actually ordered any parts of the novella, thus far? |

I've heard that the legalities of e-book releases haven't caught up with the e-book push WotC is embarking on. It's something I've run into with SHADOWBANE.
Amazon.co.uk doesn't seem capable of delivering e-books to a non-US address.

Many thanks for the info, Erik. It helps cope with the frustration (a little)  I certainly hope this gets resolved soon, as something which appears so fundamental and simple can really halt such ventures from being feasible.
Ironic how in this digital age that such items can't be obtained outside of the country of origin, yet we can get physical products released at the same time, worldwide  |

I've had the same problems here in Australia, Big Al, when trying to purchase both this novella and Erik's Shadowbane.
Erik earlier recommended contacting Wizards' electronic distribution services for more information, which I've done. I haven't heard back from them yet, but perhaps you should also query them. |

Aye, I only just learnt that Shadowbane is an e-book ONLY release! I'm baffled as to why WotC would make such a decision. Firstly, the book is part of a series, why halt the hardcopy production at this point, and secondly, why not do as other publishers are doing and release in both hardcopy and e-book.
I don't like the way this is going. I encourage all who love FR novels to give feedback to WotC on this, and on the lack of availability of e-book purchasing outside of the U.S. if you're impacted by this decision and restriction. |

Part IV is coming out in January and that's wraps this one. Sorry about being so quiet lately. I've pounding the keyboard for a number of writing projects, none set in the Realms.
Erik and the rest have the right idea: give your feedback to WOTC if you want to see paperback editions, collected editions (I'd love to see COLD STEEL come out as all one piece eventually), etc.
Until then, I'm happily still shipping bookplates for the stuff in print and, for those who can Kindle, I have KINDLEGRAPHS! You can check this out at my blog: www.rosemaryjones.com

I'm sure it's a great novella, but the pricing and the split into four parts is really odd.
At $8 for the whole novella (which is half the size of a regular novel), I'm sorry but I just can't support such pricing. Even worse than the size/cost issue, e-books can't be traded with friends or sold to used bookstores for credit.
Sorry, but this is just another example of corporations trying to control what we buy. In time, we won't own anything.

Erik, Elaine, and a bunch of others have already beaten this to death. But, basically, the authors don't set prices or formats. The publisher does. I'm encouraged that more e-books are now available for check out via library systems and hope that this will continue to grow, so you can still read and sample many type of fiction without feeling too much pain in the pocketbook.
At least each section of COLD STEEL cost less than a tall peppermint mocha made with soy. Trust me on this. I know the cost of that drink well!

And, if your library is hooked into the Overdrive ebook system (mine is), then you can check out CITY OF THE DEAD. Meet my friends the Carvers. Enjoy! It won't cost you anything....
COLD STEEL hasn't shown up yet, but I'm hoping! Again, the publisher controls this. Not me.
