Actually i probably won't either. Just finished reading the article in OXM and i am even more excited now. Can't wait.
I would love to see a Dungeons & Dragons game made for the console that is done with the same attention to detail as the Elder Scrolls series. Maybe one day! |

Interesting thing is, the elder scrolls, the first one at least, was actually an adaptation of the dev team's homebrew d&d world. They were originally making a game about arena and gladiator combat and as they added more and more to it, said "what the hell" and just adapted their game. |

The first Elder Scrolls game i played was Oblivion because my friend thought i would enjoy it. I played for 12 hours in the first sitting and have been hooked since then. Haven't played the early ones yet but would like to eventually. I am just glad the Skyrim is being released on a Friday, otherwise i would have to take some time off from work. |

I'm looking forward into this, but I don't know if I'd like it more than I liked Morrowind, I beated that game, created hundreds of different items and weaps, played for hours, and I still got the feelin' that much of the game is still unseen for me. |

I don't have to wait for Skyrim to do that. Oblivion has served in that regard. I've even taken to finding locales in the Realms that resemble certain locations in ESIV. |

Yeah Oblivion was just too massive, I didn't have the time to "Do Everything". Wasn't motivated to try though, mainly because my character build was sub-par in flavor and in use. |

Dito. One thing i loved about Oblivion were the random things you would find while wandering the wilderness. I found a burnt out house in the hills south west of Skingrad, a GIANT mud crab, a deer that was trapped in a small pond, etc. You know a game is awesome when you can just have fun "hiking." |

The character development for Skyrim is such that you can pretty much switch at anytime and begin acting like another type of character. Example: your wizard can pick up a warhammer at any time and start building up his fighter side.
I can see how many will enjoy this feature, but i prefer to make separate characters for each class and play them through while being true to that class. I will probably start with an assassin or evil wizard. |

I like this cause that means if I get bored with a style, I don't have to restart the game which is already super long. |

I also am a fan of the whole series. I first got introduced to it by the same friend I found myself in a gaming group with 20 years after the anecdote I related in the "Stunts You Got Away With" scroll in the Adventuring section. I have been playing Oblivion since and get the same feeling you all noted, that I've still got a bunch left to explore, and see, and do. I have yet to actually complete the game because I keep finding myself sidetracked by other quests that caught my fancy.
I picked up Morrowind for the laptop, free off out of one of the 'mass care package stuff noone knew what to do with' boxes during my last trip overseas and found myself enjoying it just as much as Oblivion. So much so, that my old standby for those trips, Neverwinter Nights 2, found itself giving up some playing time in favor of this new find - mostly because without reliable internet, playing the same boxed campaigns for the multiple of multiple times is somewhat anticlimactic.
I've been remodeling my house since June and the wife and I are just getting settled in after having moved in three weeks ago so I've yet to unpack the console and pick up the new Skyrim. If it's anywhere nearly as engrossing as the previous two, well, it will provide ample opportunity to just vegetate while wishing I could find a game group in my area.
Has anyone got any feedback on it? No plot spoilers please! Just mechanics on how you find chargen, progression, classes, etc.
Thanks, Wolfhound |

It's a Bethesda game, what were you expecting? I've hardly run into any glitches at all, especially when compared to Oblivion and Fallout 3. |

Skyrim has so much more depth than Oblivion. There is so much more to see and do, it's ridiculous. The game is absolutely beautiful, and truly breath taking. The atmosphere has to be my favorite part of the game; when you see that snow blowing on the wind, you feel a chill. |

The latest patch ruined dragons for me (they now fly backwards at the speed of sound away from me) and took away all my magic resistance so that mages hand me my butt.
Gonna wait for patch 1.03.
I can't pretend that Skyrim is a part of Faerun, sadly. I have been playing in Tamriel nearly as long as the Realms! |

There are no formal classes in Skyrim, you are what you play...which people seem to love or hate. Any skill that is leveled up will go towards you entire level increasing...no more picking certain skills as your majors as in Oblivion. The only complaints i have against Skyrim so far (after logging 50 hours) are MINOR including:
-no character screen where you can view equiped items or see your character as a whole, you must switch to 3rd person view for this
-many vendors seem to have much less money to buy your items with
-movement (running) seems much slower sometimes
You really need to go out and buy Skyrim, I bet you will be amazed. |

Well for what it's worth there are NPC's named Wulfgar and Lolth. I wouldn't be surprised if their are more lurking about. |

Skyrim is too massive to spend time looking for programming glitches. I see the occasional glitch and it usualy makes me laugh |

Some explore the world. Some immerse themselves into the story. Some enjoy the fighting. Some look for glitches. |

Kinda hard not to notice a glitch like a dragon flying backwards and all over the place at the speed of sound while shrieking and breathing fire.
I like the dragons though (pre patch 1.02 anyway) and they are being fixed next week. Definitely pick it up after the patch or now and wait til after the patch to play.
The lag on the PS3 can be pretty brutal, again a glitch like not being able to talk to NPCs or interact with merchants because the lag is so bad is hard not to notice, whether you "go looking for it" or not.
The game is great but please don't assume people who are having bug issues are nitpicking. The code is severely buggy (but will be fixed with patches and user mods when the creator kit comes out!) |
