What do any of you think of this character, is there any questions about him, or anything else that involves this unique dwarf.
There has been a going argument with myself and my brother, How is his name pronounced
a) Pike-el or b)pick-le
I am almost positive that it is (a).

I hadn't actually read the "Cleric Quintet" so the brothers Bouldershoulder appearing in Thousand Orcs was my first exposure to Pikel. What a great character. And hell funny. I kept chuckling everytime he appeared in the novel. It's nice to see that Salvatore can mix it up once in a while and have a character that doesn't need to be overly serious and lethal in combat to make an impression.

I doubt any self respecting author (barr Douglas Adams although I said self respecting) who would call his character something that was spelt and pronounced like a vegetable.
pike-el is right as far as im concerned |

Oo oi, its Pike-el. Who whould pronounce a dwarfs name after a vegetable, Pickle indeed! His brain might be half vegetable though, but he's such a lovable character. |

During the book signing tour for A Thousand Orcs that I attended a little over a year ago, Salvatore himself pronounced the green dwarf's name as "pickel". Obviously a joke, along with several other character names i.e. Dagnabbit, Muffinhead, Bouldershoulder among others. Though some claim this diminishes from the works, I think it adds some much needed humor to a series of books that would otherwise be cover-to-cover battle scenes. |

Which indeed would be fine when the books were stand-alone, but to place these 'jokes' in the Realms... c'mon... Again in stand-alone, they make for some nice comical sidekicks and lighter moments. I have enjoyed scenes with the Bouldershoulders etc. But they do not seem to fit if one would insert them amidst the other names and characters in for instance FRCS... |

Im reading The Lone Drow at the moment and I think that RAS has gone a bit far this time with ridiculous Dwarven names....its like hes making a mockery of the fans because he has become so popular. |

What about Steven Schend's joke in the "Cormanthyr" accessory where he describes the last mythal city of Siluvanede which leaves the bounds of Faerun: Myth Adofhaer = Myth Outofhere. Quite clever really.

I thought that it was Pike-el, it sounds better and is not as cheesy. as for the character Himself, I thought that he was excellent in the Cleric Quintet but maybe a bit over the top in A thousand orcs |
