What character did you love to hate? In other words, what villain (or hero, for that matter) did you really want to see fail and why?

For me, I know it's cliche', but when Regis cut the sliver of cloth holding aloft Artemis Entreri, I nearly cheered aloud. Regis was so very cold when he did it....it was such a turn for him...and Artemis, cool as he is, deserved every jag he hit as he fell...

My latest Realms-based short story, about a bard, a paladin of Lathander and the letter of the law, Debts Repaid. It takes place before the "shattering" and gives the bard Arion a last gasp before he plunges into the present.http://candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-debts.htm

I love to hate generally but what villian is that can be an answer to this question?
Well, Elaith Craulnober, I would definately be like him if I were a villian but I enjoyed a lot when he was dying because of that poison. Nevertheless I couldn't help myself to cheer about his miracelous recovery.

Well this may come as no surprise to anyone but the HERO that I would LOVE to see FAIL is none other than.... Guess....
Drizzt!
How I so loathe the Altruistic fool...
Hopefully, his death is nigh! One can only wait and pray to the Spider Queen...
Granted my Drizzt Pile is still thick.. and I am slowly sifting through it... Infact what was a Shock that I, for a brief instant, cheered for Drizzt (Like Will-o-Deep said it was in 'Homeland', and 'Exile')...I am not proud of admiting that but it must be said... Of course that moment was fleeting... and now we're back where we started... but for a time it felt good to cheer for the 'good' guy.. now back to usual.
GLORY TO THE SPIDER QUEEN!

The characters I've felt that way about have been Cyric, Rai-guy and Kimmuriel, Gorlist, Nisstyre, Shakti Hunzrin, Vestress, Telamont, Wulfgar, and Moander.

I would have to say Jaraxle and Artemis what a pair. even though they are basically considered villians. when salvatore finally puts out a book on these two i think they may have a change of alignment.

There have been rumors though that he was going to do one eventually. And when he wrote with them in the servant of the shard he dragged me in and I wanted to hear more of them. They are quite a pair.

Well Trafaldi, good news. Check out Realms of Shadow - GREAT little story about Jarlaxle and Artemis in there....

Something that I love about Salvatore's short stories is that he is not afraid to change his characters in such a small venue.

I hated Drizzt's sister Briza so bad that when Guenhwyvar stopped him from killing her I was upset with the cat for doing so at first.I got over it and knew she would get hers.

Courage isn't the lack of fear but rather believing in and doing what you know is right even though fear is present.

During his interview with Mortality Radio, Mr. Salvatore expressed the desire to write more of the pair in the future. Nothing apparently has been planned. However, it stands to figure that it will more than likely take place after the conclusion of this newest Drizzt series.

Throw in another vote for Malik! That guy is the most unlucky sod EVER! How he isn't dead is a testament to the tenacity of the truly vile spirit! What a curse to have...
I also like Elaith but fear Mrs. Cunningham will turn him to good (or perhaps neutral, blah)

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.

Cosmic justice is a term Mrs. Cunningham constantly uses whenever you get her talking about Elaith and the future for him. I think anyone who read a certain spoiler in the Evermeet novel might be able to figure out exactly what type of cosmic justice might cross Elaith's footsteps one day.

Malik is a bit irritating, but hes so funny (such as in Crucible), how he describes the gods, praising Cyric but calling Mystra a whore and such

I have to disagree...I think...

What makes Master Craulnober so unique is that he is the definition of what evil CAN be, not what it ALWAYS is in Forgotten Realms novels...in other words, he is not cruel. He is not malicious. He is not particularly fond of murder, lies, torture or backstabbing. Yet, he is undeniably evil. Not monolithically evil (boo!) but realistically evil (yea!).

I believe that Ms. Cunningham (bless her for her wondrous writing, DAMN HER TO THE NINE HELLS for not writing MUCH MUCH more) has put way too much effort into everyone's favorite elven nationalist to simply have him find Helm or some other silliness and abandon his vile ways.......or is vile even the right word

Hasn't written enough???

And where in Elaine Cunningham's stories did you think she tried to have Elaith "find Helm or some other silliness and abandon his vile ways?"

Vile isn't really a right word for Elaith. Ambigious would be a better one.

Black, I'm agreeing with you...Cunningham wouldn't DO that to Craulnober...that's why I like him...

As far as the "not enough" comment, I just wish some more of her stuff was published....I'm a huge fan of hers and want to see more....we all know how I feel about Evermeet: IOE, for instance...it's simply brilliant.

Ah, understood. Sorry for the confusion. Trust me, if Elaith changes it will be less like a born again experience and more like....Jules Winfield from a very popular movie.

As for not enough writing. From what I recall if Elaine Cunningham had her wish, we'd already have had a novel featuring Elaith, a certain relative of his that he has no knowledge of, and a new elven Kingdom. WOTC apparently has other ideas as to what they wish to see in novels being released.

Cyric, I'd watch my tongue, I didn't, and hissy fits have been thrown because of my indiscretions concerning Elminster....

But I sure as hell agree with you....

Yes, Elminster, is a tad... too powerful and more meddler than mortal... but I take consolation in that He is better alive than dead... after all does Faerun REALLY need a Saint Elminster? Or whatever reward a goodly god would bestow upon that fool? I think not!!!

Albalaster's Imp demon in the Cleric Quintet, Druzil. He's so impishly demon but you've just got to love the way he livens up the bad guy scenes.
