I'm reading Hitman: Enemy Within by William C. Dietz. I loved the film. Timothy Olyphant did a really good job in his role. I expected the novel to be different, but what I didn't expect is that it would be TOTALLY different. Fortunately, different in a good way. In the book, we're given glimpses into Agent 47's childhood---which was as bloody as his present life. In the movie, he appears nearly too perfect. But in the book, he's rather more "human."

Recommended to fans of assassins and spies. [Who said I only like wizards?]

Every beginning has an end.

I liked that book, except the parts where Elminster's memories were randomly shown. Some were of no use to the story at all.

Alassra's wild nature seemed to be amplified to a degree in that novel. I'd pity the lowly denizens of Hells if by some twisted fate she becomes an archdevil.

95% of that book was memories, ugh

Some of his memories were interesting enough, but most were random recollections that have nothing to do with the plot whatsoever. I like most of the scenes in Hells, though.

The novel even made me think that perhaps in one of the alternate Torils, The Simbul is an archdevil worse than Glasya or Asmodeus himself.

Every beginning has an end.

Started reading a book that i have put off for FAR too long: Swords & Deviltry by Fritz Leiber, which I believe is the first book of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser. Picked up a nice 1st printing at my local used bookstore, amazing treasure sometimes! I loved the 2nd Ed Newhon/Lankhmar stuff and am excited about Leiber's writings about these characters.

I read the seven Fafhrd and Gray Mouser books earlier this year, for only the second time since I'd acquired them all maybe ten years ago -- which took some time, since I started collecting those books before getting online! There is an 8th book, too, but when reading books in a particular non-shared setting or focusing on a particular character, I stick to the original author.

I myself am reading A Game of Thrones right now... I've heard a lot of good things about it, particularly with the recent HBO series, and my friend Gino -- who has similar taste in books -- also said it was worth reading. So I decided to look into it.

I'm quite enjoying it, thus far.

I still need to get started on A Clash of Kings... hopefully before the next season of the HBO series.

Please let me know what you think of that one when you finish. I have been thinking about picking it up for awhile now

Certainly! If you enjoy fantasy with a twist, it's a good read! I especially like the fact that the main character is an ordinary guy from the RW, stuck in a dragon's body in some other world.

It helps that the new Revan book is written by the best person for the job -- namely, Drew Karpshyn.

I finished Brimstone Angels last night. I am going to try to write up a summary or mini review in the next couple of days for anyone interested in the adventures of a pair of Tieflings in Neverwinter.

I also started my next book last night, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan.

I was absolutely going to start Revan before Midnight's Mask, but not only can I not start another book while I'm currently reading one, apparently I can't break mid-trilogy anymore to read something else. And ironically enough, I was in a rush to read the Cale trilogy because I enjoyed Mr. Kemp's contribution to the Old Republic timeline, Deceived, a great deal. That book had one hell of a badass ending. I'm blaming Riven. Yes. It's all his fault.

I wonder if it is challenging for authors to write fantasy & scifi books at the same time (as Paul does)?

Not that much, I guess. Sci-fi is just low-magic fantasy fraught with spaceships and toy guns.

Glad to know I'm missed.

Anyway, I've been extremely busy. I didn't know the preparations for taking over dad's organization would be too demanding of my time. I can even hardly find time to read. But that's life.

I should be able to resume and finish Hitman today. That is, if nothing untoward happens again.

I'm digging through my stack of "early" MtG books... and returning to the works of Jeff Grubb with The Brothers' War.

I was going to say they've already been kindled, but that sounds like I lit them on fire. And I certainly did NOT do that. What I rather meant by the inventive verbiage was Oh, they've already been purchased, and are sitting on the ipad waiting for me to catch up. Reading them is what I will be doing this weekend (er, week, since that's when my actual weekend is). I have no doubts that the series is excellent, I haven't been disappointed yet. Awesome characters (the one-eyed whoreson currently seems to be winning out as my favorite so far).

Then I will be able to join the "I can't wait for Godborn" camp.

As I'm starting to get hooked to Warhammer Dawn of War II game I'm wondering if the Warhammer novels are worth of reading. Any of the scribes here have had some experience with them?

It was a good weekend at work--managed to get myself sent to the less busy towns we cover, and lucked out with a quiet night on one of my two nights in the city--so I finished the Cale trilogy, thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Karpyshyn's Revan book, and am back in the world of PSK with Shadowbred. A good weekend, indeed. I will never understand people who don't read books.
