I recommend you also read Realms of War. Continuum by Paul S. Kemp, a short story in that anthology, deals with Rivalen's matricide.

Sixty pages left of Final Gate (book 3 of The Last Mythal). I must say that I'm really enjoying this series. I always thought the surface elves to be petty and racist and very much like the politicians of today, but this series has definitely given me reason to continue with elf-lore in the Realms. Fantastic uses of magic and epic battle scenes and as much as the daemonfey are the evil villains, something about Sarya Dlardrageth just seems hot. lol :)

Been meaning to read those books, but I've got low expectations for them and a large backlog of other stuff to read, so I've not gotten to them.

The first was entertaining in a way that i would imagine one of the series romance books are. Very short, quick moving, story. The attempt at humor for the first book was barely tolerable though

It probably has to do with the fact that some of the events from the "Double Diamond" books are hard to reconcile with the canon Realmslore.

However, it would appear WotC assume some parts are canon [or at least *could* be], given the reference in the 'Doppelganger' entry of Monsters of Faerûn. I'd expect, therefore, that with the transition to the post-Spellplague Realms, the events of 1377 DR, have become canon, unless otherwise noted in official Realmslore elsewhere.

And, of course, we learn that Khelben is still alive in 1377 DR, from the events in these books. Which were, of course, written before Khelben's death in Steven Schend's Blackstaff. As a possible *fix* for that, though, I've often suggested that the "Khelben" featured in the 1377 DR storyline of the DDTS books, was in fact Tsarra-in-the-guise-of-the-Blackstaff instead.

I'm a little over 100 pages into Tom Holt's Falling Sideways and I'm somewhere in between "WTF?!?" and "HOLY SHITE!"...I didn't really quite know what to expect with this book and after 100 pages or so...i'm still not really sure what to expect. I was thinking it may be alot like Douglas Adams, and while i can see some resemblance, I can also see where I was WRONG!!

@entreri- you'll have to let me know how that goes. after reading WotSQ i wanted to check out Empyrean Odyssey just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Finished the Gossamer Plain. The book was decent but seemed like there were way too many pointless fights. The entire middle of the book felt like a gaming session where the DM didn't really know what they were doing: We are going to travel from point A to point B and have 5 monster encounters in between. The ending was sort of cool but not a total shocker; it did make me curious about what book two will have in store though.

Starting chapter 23 of Drew Karpyshyn's Darth Bane: Path of Destruction. Aside from Shadows of the Empire i've never read a Star Wars book before but I gotta say...Darth Bane is a bad mamma jamma!! Can't wait to finish up this trilogy. Then I think I'm gonna work on Return of the Archwizards.

Have recently stumbled across a book that I'm raving about even though I'm only a few chapters in. Anyone with an interest in writing or reading or gaming in pseudo-medieval settings ought to look for THE TIME TRAVELER'S GUIDE TO MEDIEVAL ENGLAND by Ian Mortimer; I'm amazed at the depth and intriguing detail often left out of similar references. Without any doubt, I'll be looking for more of Mortimer's works soon.

And for those interested, here's an info link to goodreads.com for the book.

Heh, now that's a compelling title! It just sounds fun and really provocative.

And it's only $4? Shoot, that's definitely worth checking out.

I am reading A Blight of Mages by Karen Miller. Now on Chapter 28. Quite unputdownable. Barl and Morgan are so compelling, despite the rebellious nature coursing through their veins. Magic in Miller’s world is also interesting. Mages focus more on Transmutation and Abjuration. Unlike D&D wizards, once they memorize a spell, it stays in their minds forever.

Miller shows her deft hands in handling the complicated relationships of the characters, which is starting to prove to be their undoing as much as their powers.

It is brutal, but not quite dark. You will be moved by the kind of determination that the protagonists possess, in spite of the myriad of colossal obstacles they face along the way. Their unbound imagination is both a joy and a pain to behold.

Every beginning has an end.

Finished reading book two of the Double Diamond Triangle Square Trapezoid Rhombus Saga, The Paladins. This book reminded me why I can't stand Paladins. The series is decent so far if you don't mind reading books that feel like a Saturday morning cartoon.

Recent discussion about old Feist books in another scroll prompted my re-interest in tackling some of his old stories. Thus, I tracked down some first and second editions copies of his "Empire" trilogy at a local second hand book dealer here in Brasilia. Thankfully, they're in English, so I can try and start reading them during the "off" periods of my holiday.
