Ah, it’s the guy who thinks Lockwood is not the greatest artist to ever be born. Anyway....I believe that the bhaalspawn saga, outside of what is written in those god-awful novels, is considered non-canon. So I guess that the answer is yes but not as depicted within the Baldur's Gate pc games.

The novels are canon, yes. There are DRAGON articles dealing with the characters from the novels and details about the Bhaalspawn featured in 3e sources like LEoF.

The CRPGs however, are not. Simply because of the multiple and alternate endings for the games, which make it difficult to include them in official Realmslore.

And I'll just add that it's worth performing a search here at Candlekeep for prior discussions on the topic, as this has been brought many times.

Of course you can always be like me and pretend that the books do not exist and that your character and the path you chose in the CRPGs are the 'real' canon.

You could do that of course.
Anything you do can seriously alter the course of history, such as killing the Runemasters of the Twisted Rune in the game.
You could do something similar by adapting your actions in NWN to be effective in your world as well by killing Obould when you meet him (effectively saying byebye to the Kingdom of Many-Arrows before it even comes into being).

Dogmatically blind adherence to canon is inadvisable and unnecessary.

My players read the same sourcebooks, articles, and novels as I ... and I can't let everything occur in predictable fashion. I don't care if my D&D is interchangeable with anyone else's because my table is the one where my players and I spend our time; it's not like I plan to hand it all over "intact" when my tenure as DM comes to an end. Equal parts planning and improvisation make the game more entertaining for all. Besides, there's too many interesting (and dare I say, oft times rigorously overanalyzed) fan-generated contributions for me to ignore. A lot of the best material is free.

I can say that adhering to canon isn't bad or difficult unless you have a running game that has unfolding events that negate canonical events. Otherwise, if nothing is related, it is easy to simply state that happenings elsewhere (as per novels, etc...) are indeed taking place and news can come to the PCs simply to keep the realms alive and bigger than one location.

Close, but no cigar

Seriously though there have been many who have brought the realms to life with there own style and interpretation. Some I like more than others but they're all better than I could ever be.

Whatever happened to Abdel Adrian, anyway? Did he just live out his life as a regular Joe six-pack?

You can meet Obould in NWN? I totally missed this, I've got to look this up.

So true, which is why I, despite having played it so many times, have never seen the mortal ending.

IIRC he dies, but I played the games like 6 times and only read the novels once, so I don't know for sure.

This thread makes me want to reinstall Baldur's Gate and play it through again.

Yeah I get that feeling too. But after doing that 6 times already, I gotta smack myself into doing stuff I have yet to do once lol
