Aarakocra or Kenku ?
i want to create a bird kingdom in an upcoming campaign and i guess what i am asking is which race would make a better kingdom for the player characters to contend with?

please take into consideration kenku's innate abilities and there neutral evil Alignment.

also take into consideration Aarakocra's +4 dive attack and there
neutral good alignment.

Gyerians and Nagpa from Mystara for the win.

FR's flyers are BORING (IMHO).

Also, I now consider Avariel Raptorans - the Raptoran fluff is very conducive to a race of flying Elves, and they make more sense then winged regular elves (seriously, Angelic type flyers are not aerodynamically feasible).

Kenku and Aarakocra are actually descendants of the same Creator race, much how modern Green Elves and Drow have common ancestors. You may want to include both, and give the whole thing a Drow-like spin (since Kenku prefer subterranean environments and darkness, IIRC).

Where do you intend to put them? Both have their own 'kingdoms' already. Aarakocra dwell in the Star Mounts, and Kenku have a kingdom-of-sorts in Veldorn (as of the 4e lore). Kenku are known in the Hordelands as 'Manni' (and they have a rich history there - one is featured on the cover of one of the Hordelands booklets). There are also several other avian races in the east, but I assume you are focusing on Faerūn.

Balors and vampires. If you're gonna trouble the PCs with flyers then do it right.

Although you can put pretty much any PC race onto the back of a griffon.

Heck, just use both and have each be at war with each other and plunge the PCs in the middle. Name the head of the Kenku tribe Peck'ur'eyes.

One of the two main characters in my upcoming novel is a kenku, so I have a strong personal bias for them.

Finally. I've long been waiting for kenku to break into D&D fiction as an important character race. You've indeed made my day, Christopher.

You do know that Superman fought the Kenku, right?

Mark, that's a fantastic find, thanks. Sage, happy to oblige: Corvus Nightfeather may be my all-time favorite of my own characters, and as a survivor-adept of the Rookery of Tears, he's.. But wait, I've said too much. ;)
