Hope this is the correct area, and the gods and keeper of the tome allows me to have it. As part of my final, I'm doing a paper of the benefits of roleplaying. Part of it is gathering research by other peoples opinions and experences.
So, the realms is a famous RPG setting, how has adventuring in it, or even roleplaying games benefit you?

My love of RPGs and the Realms led (eventually, and by a somewhat circuitous path that involved lots of hard work and dues paying) to my first published novel, a Realms book out this coming March!
That's just the most obvious, though. The Realms, for me, is hundreds of hours of enjoyment, hundreds of memories (not to mention hundreds of dollars ;) )
Cheers,
Christopher |

Alystra pretty-much voiced my thoughts as well.
It INSPIRES.
When a setting goes from mere 'backdrop' for stories and evolves into a story of its own, that is something truly amazing, and something EVERY designer/author can only dream of emulating.
Ed challenges us to dream. |

Rping lead me directly to becoming a writer. I come from a biology background and Rping is very much my creative outlet, a way for me to unwind after a hard day. It has also led me to managing a creative writing website, and essentially picking up communication skills along the way.
It has also led me to meet some great people. It was only last week that I met up with a long time writing friend who lives in belgium (I'm from Australia) and we went out and had a great day. Additionally I know have contacts to visit and be visited by in many different countries including Canada, NZ, Australia, German, Holland, USA, UK, and Belgium. |

Indeed. This is always one of my primary incentives when I'm trying to plan for GenCon. The possibility of meeting with some of the folk I've befriended here, almost outweighs the possibilities of meeting the "Realms Greats" like Ed. ![](images/icon_smile.gif) |

The forgotten realms has always been a conduit for my imagination to run wild with possiblities. It has expanded the depth of creativeness and resolve. itis in my own opinion the best campain setting of them all besides Al-Quadim,LOL just kidding! Al-Quadim sucked! it was like role playing alaadin with out robin williams comic relief! |

Anyone visiting the great state of Texas, and Dallas in particular, is welcome to a beer on me, or drink of your choice for minors/non-beer drinker. Though if you come from Germany, Belgium, or pretty much anywhere in Europe the beer here probably isn't much of an incentive.
Oh and how has the Realms impacted me? It single-handedly got me into RPGs through the Baldur's Gate computer game series, which started me reading Realms fiction, then Realms 2e setting books, then playing on a RP intensive Neverwinter Nights Persistent World, and finally playing D&D through Play by Post sites. That has significantly improved my writing ability, which was pretty terrible and has jumped up to moderately bad. Also, the Realms and RPGs in general have inspired my imagination, I've created people, cities, worlds, stories, and adventures that I never would've imagined without the Realms. |

idilippy, we are damn-near neighbors! I'm currently residing in the Decatur area, but I am originally from down Lewisville way. *sigh* I really miss that town- this one is so tiny that we have to drive to Denton to find a book store, and there are NO gamers in this area. My theory is that aliens took them all- they were more interesting to study than the ubiquitous red-necks of this area..... And I'll take that drink, BTW! |

Besides Recycle Books, is there another bookstore in Denton?
To stick with the OP, RPing made me more "sociable" and gave me the urge to explore things outside my house as a child. |
I hope Candlekeep continues to be the friendly forum of fellow Realms-lovers that it has always been, as we all go through this together. If you don’t want to move to the “new” Realms, that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with either you or the “old” Realms. Goodness knows Candlekeep, and the hearts of its scribes, are both big enough to accommodate both. If we want them to be. (Strikes dramatic pose, raises sword to gleam in the sunset, and hopes breeches won’t fall down.) Enough for now. The Realms lives! I have spoken! Ale and light wines half price, served by a smiling Storm Silverhand fetchingly clad in thigh-high boots and naught else! Ahem . . So saith Ed. <snip> love to all, THO
