What are some of the weird and or funny ways you have died in a game.

Some believe there is something more after death, if you really want to find out... go kill yourself and stop pestering me.

Well, While I myself did not die this way, it was hilarious none the less. We were travelling from town to town, as we usually did after... umm 'helping' the locals... when a young copper dragon who decided to errr... umm.. 'reward' us for our efforts in 'saving' the town from pirates... I guess he thought to get our attention with his flame breath.. but he uhhh miscalculated the path of his flame... lucky most of us were able to dive out of the way.. I uhhh 'heroically' ran to the woods to uhhh do something important, our gnome illusionist was not as lucky. Before you could say ka-bob, he was lit up like a christmas tree. The DM had him roll saving throws for all his magic items..all fifteen of them fail and blew up... the fact that he was the party's packer of molotov cocktails did not improve the situation... the Ground shook and groaned and a black plume of smoke and dust could be seen i think a mile away, that's how far I had appearently umm 'jogged' from the party. We never saw Nick again... we found some slime though and gave that a proper burial... we worked it out to -392hp when all was said an done. Of course it happened again about a month later (although not to such an extent) since the party thought that having the cocktails were worth the risk.

Now that is a funny way to go out. I would have loved to seen the reactions to the dice rolls.

Not once...but TWICE...on different continents...I was eaten by a Grey Render. The DM thought it was AWFUL funny, because I wasn't even supposed to engage the renders...it just happened that way...

I was not a happy bard that day...

My latest Realms-based short story, about a bard, a paladin of Lathander and the letter of the law, Debts Repaid. It takes place before the "shattering" and gives the bard Arion a last gasp before he plunges into the present.http://candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-debts.htm

In my game a curious barbarian looked to the dark priests who are protecting their temple from attacks(that was they were doing and they were detected). He showed himself and upps a hold spell broke lose. Although he was on the top of a roof(he was thinking himself as he was safe),they summonned a big vermin and the spiders ate him alive. HAAAAAHAAAAAHAAAAA.
Do u think it isn't funny, well it is for me(great DM)

The Spiders were a cruel Nice touch.
As for the render, I sympathize. I too was eaten by a creature although i remember not the name, they were lizard-like and BIG..not dragons but just as well... we were hunting from a huge cash of gold and were actually digging for this buried treasure.. well these two creatures showed up ( I guess attracted by our digging) I do remember they could spit lightening. Anyways while my partner decided to go high and hide in the trees I thought If I were underground it would be better... This was my own stupidity ( a bad effect that seems to happen at the most horrible moments).Lacking a cave a ran to the roots of these huge trees and attempted to burrow... I only got about three feet down when it spotted me digging... I was a midday snack...
As for the reaction to the rolls, with the exception of me, everyone else ( who didn't take a brisk jog far away) had to roll a saving throw for the explosion... SHOCK AND AWE... well for my friend playing the gnome it was more like AAAAWWWWWWWWW!!!!!

A 2nd level thief in one of my games was exploring a ruined [and deserted] temple when he entered a large room and observed a rat running across the floor. Eager for the xp he chased it and when the rat ran under a door he broke it down and cornered the rat. At this point I looked up 'rat' in the monstrous manual alarming my player who had been injured by a poison trap earlier and had not realsied that rats could fight back. The thief fled, the rat gave chase, hit and did 2hp damafe- enough to kill him.

I believe your creature is called a behir, Deimos. A rogue of mine once saw a curtained area, and jumped in blindly...right into, and down the toilet. If the 300' drop hadn't killed me, the aboleth at the bottom would have.

Can you imagine the thief in the next life, wherever that is for him
and someone asks him how he died.

Not even a Cranium rat at that Cardinal.

a rat can really kill someone. I saw one big as a dog, that fella can easily devour a cutie catty.I think that was a dire rat

Hey I did't drink anything, I saw it in the middle of the day.You don't believe me well then come and see our well fed sewer rats.
But I don't recomend it if you are a potential tourist.

Woo!

Oh, and take a look here for some interesting rat facts; many surprising things, and many I'm sure you didn't want to know. (Like the FDA regulation on how many rodent hairs are allowed in how much peanut butter. I didn't know that was an issue . . . .)

It also gives the weight of the largest rat ever caught. Not the size, though, which is what I was looking for.

That's an interesting link Bookwyrm.

And you are right, there are some things described on there that are not generally know. For example, the exact frequency of a female's squeal...interesting.

What's more interesting is the fact that some of this material could be translated into gameplay.

I've got some tinkering to do...

Actually, 'cranium rats' will be featured heavily in Wednesday night's game. The ideas that I have been thinking about, since reading this site could make the Primes adventure in Sigil all the more interesting....

Or maybe something from the Far Realm...

I'm not really sure about wererats though. I very rarely use any creatures of the were- type in my campaigns.

Don't worry. I just used that as an example, since it's the usual "rat" creature in D&D. At least as anything other than scene-discription. (A rat scurries among the debris, frightened by the party's approach . . . .)

That's true. CRPG's are well know for that as well. I remember that Eye of the Beholder used that description more than once. So much so in fact, that I came to think that rats were the only inhabitants beneath Waterdeep...

No, there were kobolds, kuo-toa, drow patrols, and a single beholder who, for some strange reason, kept a spike trap in his room . . . .

Hmm...I hadn't thought of that . I think they are also used as a spell component, at least according to some of the homebrew spells from the D&D forums at WotC.

Although he didn't like it much I got a kick out of what happend to one of my players. He kept making stupid comments about other characters, and getting into trouble were he wasn't supposted to. He even was responsible for a few innocent deaths in a local village. When a few of my other players had finally had enough of him. It was pretty good how they did it, I myself didn't realize what they were doing until it was to late.
They were ambushed by a band of theives as they moved from one village to another, near a rope bridge. They came up with a plan to cross the bridge one at a time while every one elts provided cover with their bows & magic. They made this player cross last, and cut one of the two support ropes just as he was half way across (increasing the balance check to 15). then they waited patiently for him to almost make it back to the other side, the whole time listening to him beg for his life. Then they droped the bridge completely.
