So, are any of my fellow scribes making the attempt this year?
...
Every year I keep saying I'll give it a go. Then I come to the realisation that deadlines and I usually don't like to meet in the same sentence, so I leave it alone.
And every year I keep saying next year's attempt will be different.
...
I hope.

Well, in sage time, if u start now, you could be done in 3.8 years if u hustle.
Anyway, I will try my hand in writing someday, but I'm going to get Dragon speak (a voice writing software) before I try. I don't have time to sit at a computer several hours a day. |

Same sentence? You and deadlines rarely meet in the same calendar! |

The Lady K said something similar to me this morning when we were discussing this over breakfast. She later added that even if I start writing now, it's probably likely that I wouldn't finish 2010's submission until NaNoWriMo 2013. |

I'm unofficially going for it this year, even though I have almost no spare time. There's something I want to finish. If I finish it, I'll start project number two. :) |

NaNoWriMo is, for me, also exam month. I'd love to do it(tried last year, in fact), but it just doesn't work out.
Which is remarkably unfortunate, as it's a great concept. I've a friend who's done it two or three times now, and it just amazes me how he manages to do it. That 1,666 daily word quota is unforgiving, I'll tell you that. |

I'm in the same boat as Sage. Every year, I see NaNoWriMo coming along, fully intend to actually write that (what, 50K words?) novel, and then I go sit on the couch until the feeling passes. Works for me every year! |

Not for me, unfortunately. I've got too many deadlines next month (or just after) to spend my time with other writing, unfortunately. The day job doesn't take kindly to me pounding out words at my desk.
Perhaps next year. |

...Woah. I've heard about this before, but never the details. Ironically, a friend of mine has challenged me to start pounding out the first messy draft of my FR-related "novel" without fretting about tidiness, so this might be just the excuse I needed! *fist pump* |
Bran thought about it. "Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?"
"That is the only time a man can be brave," his father told him.

I love the idea behind it. It is meant merely as a means to destroy the excuses many people come up with when writing a novel. You literally just spit words out on the page. You don't worry about prose or structure (to an extent). Just get 'er done!

I'll be doing it this year, although for an original urban fantasy setting I've been working on, and a vacation may disrupt some things. I'm also "Daviot" on NaNoWriMo for those interested. |

Oh, me: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/702703
The monster I'm going to finish is an AU Realms fan fic (parallel development initially anyway). It already has something like 50k words on it now and I want it to be done.
Now you all are making me want to sign up officially. :P
EDIT: Well so much for my sanity (I wasn't using it anyway). http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/313165 |

I've been promising myself that I'll do this for the last four years; I've been signed up at their site for that long. I usually start with a vague idea and then run out of steam at around 2,500 words though.
This year however I've already written (the bulk of) the prequel to a Realms related 'novel' and about 5,000 words of dialogues and scene setting for the main story, so the only thing stopping me now would be a sudden disappearance of 'the muse', or that pesky 'real life' thing. (Mr Lily might end up feeling a little neglected by the end of November).

1,384 words done for Day #1.
Also I still can't get the site to work. Wonder if they crashed due to participant interest? |
