It's annoying to be sure, but also kind of cool that enough people are pumped about writing like the demented to overwhelm the servers like this.
Also, my understanding was that you want to write 50k words during the month (regardless of what you've got to start with) and you update that count in the little insto update field in the top right corner of your user page.
Got 1200 so far! |

LOL!! no, Ashe, I only WISH I had written that much in one day- did get in a respectable 1120, though. It's included in there somewhere. The good thing about the contest is that it will get me back in shape on deadlines- I've been a little lax in that department since I stopped participating in the monthly fan-fic comps over on Marvel. I just got frustrated trying to come up with a new tale each month ON TOP of all my regular writing projects. Had to pair it down, so the comps had to go. Didn't care much for their new forum format, either... |

As a (failed) veteran of NaNo, working with anything less than the 1700(ish) words per day required to churn out 50K words after 30 consistent days of writing is setting yourself up to fail: it doesn't matter so much at the beginning, but those deadlines are vital.
However, I do offer nothing but best wishes for you guys participating: it's a great initiative, and when (if?) you manage to finish it all, it's one hell of an achievement. Keep it up. |

Yeah, I fell way short of my goal yesterday. But in my defense, I've been fighting a cold and as I sat down to the computer to write after dinner, I promptly fell asleep for two hours. I awoke with a terrible kink in my neck and only two of the four hours left that I had set aside to write. |

As of today my story is officially disjointed, contradictory and I’m sure doesn’t make the least bit of sense to a layperson not familiar with D&D or the Realms (though my girlfriend was complimentary and told me I had a big imagination). ;)
But this write-and-take-no-prisoners-process is fun.
It’s like DMing on the fly; where you’re trying to keep ahead of your players and keep the game fun through the story you’re all unfolding together.
Once you get going, it’s like the damn thing almost writes itself. |

Not sure if I'm going to get a chance to write tonight. Phone's been ringing off the hook from the last batch of resumes I sent out. |

Answer the phones, because day jobs are important for things like rent, food and clothes then write after they stop. Sleep is overrated. |

Well, I suppose it comes as no surprise to many of my fellow scribes that I've succumbed to the intense gravitation effects of SageTime. Thus, my attempts to meet certain word-limits over the last two days has been severely compromised. |

My Day 2, Chapter 2 effort morphed into Day 2 and 3, with 2,175 words written.
I need to sort the days out and get it all put together properly before the girlfriend sets eyes on it tonight.
Press ever forward, fellow writers! |

I will be locking myself in my apartment this weekend. There will be a giant hamster bottle of water near my desk and a rotation of hot pockets/microwave burritos for meals until I reach 12,000+ words. |

And despite a late start due to circumstances beyond my control (including a rough draft and some art for the Kobold Quarterly blog), I've gone from zero to 3000 in a day. Huzzah!

I got to 1599 today. In SPITE of feeling like crap, spending half the day running around town shopping and helping my mom rearrange her kitchen cabinets, and taking a series of short naps due to fatigue and horrendous headache. I intend to do at least 3000 tomorrow to make up for not getting any yesterday, and to catch up on the shortages from the last few days. I'm locking myself in the trailer all day! |

Got to over 4000 last night, hoping to get to over 10,000 tonight.
Here's a good trick: I have had the entire story arc in my head for about a year (it's also going to be a campaign for my players in Pathfinder). So I know the breakdown of each "chapter" and how each one opens and ends. Instead of writing it linearly, I'm going through and getting each of the chapter's openings finished to bookmark the idea of what's going on there. Then I can go back and detail the rest later.
Hopefully. I'm really good at beginnings and endings. It's the middle stuff that I get blocked on... |
