I was browsing the new games listed on EBgames and saw this new xbox RPG, which has a release date of next September.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Reckoning combines visceral third person action combat with deep exploration, expansive character development, and immersive storytelling in a high fantasy universe. Gamers mysteriously rise from the dead and are thrust into a bloody conflict between multiple races, factions, and alliances as they vie for the secrets of immortality and the ancient magic that threatens to destroy the world.
* Intense third person action combat o Legendary creator of SPAWN Todd McFarlane brings his award-winning artistic vision to Reckoning with uniquely visceral combat and brutal finishing moves, all in his trademark style.
* Expansive character development and open world exploration o In Reckoning, world-renowned game designer Ken Rolston delivers the open-world exploration, vast narrative, and character customization he’s famous for, including hybrid character classes that reward player choice at every turn.
* Immersive epic storytelling o New York Times best-selling author R.A. Salvatore created a massive world for Reckoning, immersing players in a vast fantasy universe where unique magic allows them to alter the very fabric of fate.

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

I was really only ever of fan of McFarlane's run on Amazing Spider-Man. I've not had any particular interest in his work elsewhere.
Still, it sounds like a title that I'd like to keep an eye on. |

They showed a preview of this today at E3. It looks wicked!

The architecture reminds of me Guild Wars and Fable, while the gameplay is giving me Oblivion-meets-Fable vibes. Looks interesting, though. |

Necromancy, today I started this game. The game has a fun gameplay, a lot in common with Skyrim, and Salvatore created an interesting fey world. |

Salvatore? RA? and McFarlane? That sounds like a winner. |

I enjoyed the bit of this game that I got to see my friend play. Will go in the queue of "to-buy-when-the-price-drops" game titles along with Arkham City. 5-month-olds take a lot of attention—I think I have played all of 12 hours of video games since he was born. So there is no point in paying two to three times as much for a game that I will not have time to play. =) |

This has been my game of choice lately and I'm addicted to it. :) I've put in almost 100 hours into it and I'm STILL not near the end of the main story line. |

I haven't even had a chance to pick up a copy. They sold out pretty quickly here, and the store where I reserved my pre-order copy at, accidentally sold it to another customer. So I have to wait for the next shipment. |

Oh, yes, I made sure of that. So I'm to receive a twenty-five-to-thirty percent discount on my next games-related purchase. |

Well, having a retail and commercialism lawyer in the family helps as well.
She made it clear what my rights were with regard to the pre-order I initially made with the store. |

I, too, have a lawyer in the family; they're a group of professionals that it's far better to know than to need... but if you do need one, it's good to know one. |
Playing in the Realms since the Old Grey Box (1987)... and *still* having fun with material published before 2008, despite the NDA'd lore.
If it's comparable in power with non-magical abilities, it's not magic. |

Oh Sage, that's crappy that they did that. :( Bah.
And well, I finished the game and the ending..... was disappointing. The end boss looked fantastic but the fight.... it was pretty easy. |

About 85 hours but I skipped some of the tasks, which were optional "quests" that you really didn't need to do, or you could do over and over if you needed money, which I never needed. There's about three of them I could go back and do, if I felt like looking for the missing scrolls, or the like. And I skipped some of the arena quests cause they were just annoying me but I did half of them. Plus some of them were set up so that you needed a melee character or the like and that bugged me a bit cause my char was a magic user and if you used magic, the bout in the arena failed.
Kinda lame. |

I am very surprised this thread didn't get a "What does this have to do with the Realms?" warning? My thread about a Skyrim question got heat after just a few posts. |

Well, to be honest, I think it got some slack because R.A is involved and you know, he does write one of the most popular FR series. :) |

Salvatore's involvement makes it easier to class this discussion as "loosely Realms-related," as Kuje notes.
And it's been my experience that most CRPG's -- both D&D and non-D&D -- tend to offer curious points for discussion at Candlekeep anyway, which is largely why these kinds of scrolls are allowed. |

I tried the game and was quickly bored, even more than in Skyrim the same dungeons repeat endlessly. You have fae in the desert, expected genies. |

I believe you could assume the "the same dungeons repeat endlessly" part. |

Must be a different version of the Skyrim i am playing. I see tons of different dungeons, and if any "repeating" is going on then it is minor. |

Well I can't put in any opinions of my own as I have yet to play it. I am concentrating on finishing Morrowind before hitting up Oblivion and finally Skyrim.
EDIT: I never understood why they called it "Oblivion". I mean it should have been called "Cyrodiil". Then again, "Arena" doesn't conform to the naming conventions either. |
