Can anyone tell me why in 2nd ED. Gnomes were shorter(Altetudelly challenged)than Halflings, but in 3rd ED. they switched them around and made the Halflings the shorter, why did they do that, is it because Halflings make better thieves?

P.S.-Does anyone have the Gnomes and Halflings HB from 2nd ED. they are willing to sell to me, its the only hand book I'm missing.

What size a halfling has or a gnome has is depended on what edition you play. I agree on that with ArcticKnight. But if you really want to play a halfling sized gnome or a gnome sized halfling... that is up to you and your DM. The rules in all the editions are for me all the same... they are guidelines. And if I like rules from second edition more.. I'll use those, but if there happens to be an add on in the third edition I will use it shamelessly besides the second edition rules.

To go back to the topic. I really don't know why they turned the two around. And frankly, I don't care either. My DM makes the rules and I'll have to adjust to that or look for another group to play in.

(Of course I will argue about rules with the DM when I do not agree, but he or she has always the last word in that. If I like it or not.)

Normal (rock-)gnomes from second edition were actually a bit taller than halflings. However, the forest gomes ARE substantially smaller.

wise, he is free from perplexities;
bold, he is free from fear. ~ Confucius
