The consequences of which would be dire indeed...for it would finally allow the Lord of the Ninth to leave/escape the Nine Hells and challenge the eternal balance of Good and Evil. The interposing neutral realm of the Outlands would collapse, and the Great Ring would be destroyed...leaving a vast and empty void.
If Asmodeus does indeed succeed in leaving the Nine Hells (something which Jazirian is trying very hard to prevent) it will mean the end of everything. Lacking the eternal law of balance to hold them together, the planes fragment and collapse...deities, and their followers...in fact all mortals could only stand and watch as their entire existence slowly slid towards eternal and unending chaos.
And as we all know, this is exactly what Asmodeus desires, as it will allow him to reshape the multiverse in the image he so desires...

I knew there was a reason why I like Baatezu more than Tanar'ri. Yep... Asmodeus, the true bringer of balance... well ok maybe not but his vision of the mutliverse couldn't be anyworse than what WotC have done with it |

This even has some basis in 3e. Asmodeus' statistics were presented in the Book of Vile Darkness, and that version would not be powerful enough for the task in question. However, the 3e Manual of the Planes has a note on the Serpent's Coil feature of Nessus. I'll paraphrase it here: Brutally repressed rumors suggest there may be more to Asmodeus then he admits. Apparently, Asmodeus' true body resides in the Serpent's Coil, a massive rift formed when Asmodeus first arrived in the Nine Hells-by falling. His titanic, miles-long form still lays there, its black blood pooling out of uncountable cuts. Nothing that tells this tale survives more than 24 hours after repeating it aloud. Secret scrolls in great libraries may yet record this knowledge, however... |

I wonder if they are planning on using this sometime since it is mentioned in 3e MotP? Not good for all Toril, not just Faerun. |

Here's some information -
Jazirian is from Monster Mythology, and has a fascinating realm detailed in Planes of Law. It exists in an airy void that visitors have to leap from the mountaintop to reach, and it's the only portal to the next layer. Word-related magic cast there becomes living creatures. Jazirian is hermaphroditic, male and female combined. The nagas, however, see Jazirian as male and the sometime consort of Shekinester, their triple goddess. Parrafaire, the naga god of guardians, is supposedly Jazirian and Shekinester's child. The myth of Jazirian (Spenta Mainyu, Good Spirit as the Persians said) and Ahriman (Angra Mainyu, Bad Spirit) treats Jazirian as all female, the yin to Ahriman's yang - or, more accurately, vice versa. This is, however, a simplification, like the naga myth. Jazirian is a complete god, like Io, opposites united. He/she is the lawful good incarnation of the World Serpent, the primal reptillian infinity, the loop that surrounds and defines all that is. His opposite is Merrshaulk, the corrupt, sleeping World Serpent worshipped by the yuan-ti. Merrshaulk is chaotic evil to Jazirian's lawful good, just as Ahriman/Asmodeus is lawful evil. There are most likely chaotic good World Serpent fragments as well.

I think he has some great powers not written in the scroll I read. He is actually god like creature, I think. Maybe a victim of Lady of Pain.

I don't know, but the gods of Faerun would be like a group of adventur-ers facing an ancient dragon from what Arivia quoted from the MotP. They might kick arse and they might get their arse kicked. It would certainly be a major battle. |

Not according to official canon of course...This must be a house-rule?.
Cyric said -

It is important to remember that Asmodeus is a level-above that of the most powerful deities in the multiverse. Asmodeus has existed since the creation of the Multiverse, so it is logical to assume that he knows more than one way to protect himself from 'lesser' upstarts, and has a mastery of powers outside the scope of even the Greater deities themselves - such as the deities of Faerun.
Jander Sunstar said -

An understandable theory, but the most accepted idea behind Asmodeus is that his is a 'victim' (if he can be called that) of Jazirian.
William of Waterdeep said -

If they could even reach him. Remember, the deities would have to deal with the rest of the Lords of the Nine, as well as the Dark Eight, before they could even reach Nessus.
Whew!!!

Let us not forget also, that to even visit Nessus, one must travel through the gate from Cania which is guarded by a very large formation of gelugons. Not only would they need to be beaten back before anyone can use the only portal to Nessus, but Mephistopheles is not exactly a 'push-over' himself.
Besides, there is a well-founded piece of screed, that one would need the permission of Asmodeus himself to even breach the portal anyway, so...
