Well, this is a dumb question, and I'm pretty sure it's in the wrong section but I don't know where else to put it.
Against my better judgement, I'm joining up again with one of the worst DM's I've ever had. (Not as bad as the one that forced us to have gay sex with all npcs).
Thankfully, this is just going to be a play by post game, because if it was reality I'd kill him.
I hate his house rules with a passion. (All female characters take huge peneaties, because they are female and reality is females are weaker then men). He does give them bonuses to cooking, and healing skill though. YAY. (not). Oh, they get -1 to strength. (But a +1 to charisma).
He expects several paragraphs on background history, including secrets and character family, though he flat outs states he will not have any aspect of your past to be in the game, as he is strictly premade adventure books.
His character generation is standard point buy, however all your stats start at 6. (36 points to spread out).
Fine. Made a sword sage. Did my stats. He kept stating my character ability scores were wrong, and I was spending too much. I redid math, no, still right. He finally told me how I was wrong. I was given him the final score of my character, including gender modifers. that was a big no no, as he'll do that. (.....)
I made sure to max out my use magic device, seeing as his strict rules that you must roll use magic device on everything. Even wearing your armor. If you fail, you can't use that magic item again until you raise a level and put a point in it. (.... biggest hate rule, next to his stupid gender rules).
Anyway, my final problem lies in his stupid character avatar needs. I'm required to find a full body shot of a drawn character. Doesn't matter how I describe it, this is what my character looks like period. If I want it too look how I want, he states draw it myself. (However, when someone did a stick figure character as he couldn't draw, his character died from his arms being too weak seeing as they are sticks).
So I need a link or a website that has decent avatar drawings. I need a human, with a cloak covering body and wielding an axe. (he already flat out stated my character is buttass ugly and has breath of orc's toilet seeing as I have low charisma. Even though I tried to express him that charisma is not strictly looks, he states that's how he reads it, and that's how it is. Charisma is looks period.
So yeah. Despite me wearing a helmet, all people just know I'm that ugly and will ignore me he says.
This guy pisses me off, but I need a play by post game to play as it's been so very long since I was last a player.

Due to health, and shedules, I can't attend personal games, that's the only reason I joined his play by post game.
If there is another place I can play on by messageboard, I'd do it.
But yeah. I really shouldn't play, I just don't know any other place that is open to play by post. |

Well, it's not done too much around here, but have you checked out the Paizo boards?
Anything's really better than the DM you've described. |
I actually DO know everything. I just have a very poor index of my knowledge.

Play by post still exists, not sure how many sites still do it though. Most of my recent play has been freeflow roleplay. I do agree with the others, playing with a DM you detest is a bad idea- there are better options. By playing with a bad DM, you only encourage DM to be bad because s/he has players and can say I DM for <foo> players. |

If you want a decent PbP game, try going over to Chosen of Eilistraee. Mostly drow/elves/humans, but at least they are decent players, and there are plenty of adventure threads to choose from. Just find one you like, and jump in. Some are by invite only, as they have a pre-set party in progress, but most are anyone welcome. Believe me, speaking as a DM myself, you do NOT want to play with this jerk. I agree with capnvan- he's a mysogynistic control-freak, and worse, he's a poor mathematician, which means any rolls or stats he does will be suspect, at best. Run, don't walk away, and if at all possible, try to convince the other players to stop playing with this d*ck. He does NOT need to be running games of any kind- PERIOD. |

That DM needs a psychotherapist, not players for his game.
There's an interesting-sounding PbP starting up right here at CK with a DM who sounds like he has things together and would probably be fun. I'd be tempted to join, myself, except I don't really go for games flat-out described as deadly (I put way too much work into my PCs for my own good ) and I'm involved in plenty else right now. Other than that PbP and what else has been said, maybe you could post a CK thread asking if anyone wants to start a PbP? |
