I read an interview where Bob Salvatore stated something to the effect of not reading novels from other authors as much as he'd like in order to avoid having their style influence his writing. I tried to find that interview to show the exact context of the quote but couldn't locate it. (Maybe another poster here has it?)
My question is; Is this common? Do you also avoid reading other novels, or is that simply the way RAS does it? If you take a similar approach, perhaps you could elaborate on it? I'm not sure I quite understand what would be perilous in having outside influences unless your own story became lost with them.
For your information, Elaine, along with many FR authors, has a scroll dedicated to her to answer questions such as this one. You can find it in the Chamber of Sages.
