So I'm getting ready to run my first game in a couple months, once our current campaign is done. I am custom creating an adventure, I know it's a little bold but I just can't bring myself to use printed materials. :p
Anyway, I'm not very familiar with the realms, so I'm hoping I can get some help. In the story I'm creating, my players will have to follow a group of wizards to Thay. From the Silver Marches. My main question is about route selection. Looking at the maps it seems like the most direct route would be to cross the The Plain of Standing Stones in Anauroch. The group they're following has large cargo, however, so I was thinking of having them take a much less direct route all the way down to WestGate (or thereabouts) and having them travel by sea to the east. This also lets me have fun with have the PCs have to charter a boat, which I could have fun with. Anyway, has anyone done something like this before? Any ideas? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Definately go the Sea-route - crossing the desert is nearly impossible, for many, MANY reasons. Besides, an adventure or three in seedy Westgate can be quite the merry side-trek.
May I inquire what era you are running in? It makes a bit of difference - in 1e/2e you would have had to contend with Zhents, and in 3e/4e Shade/Empire of Netheril.
Of course, the bottom line is that the Realms are what YOU make of them, and anything you want can be there... or not be there. |
