Begging everyone's indulgence for a moment...
We're a little over a week away (time flies!) from the release of my third Forgotten Realms novel, Unbroken Chain. I've said before that I'm incredibly excited about the release of this novel. I think it's my strongest work to date, and it not only gave me the chance to explore the shadar-kai, one of the most challenging races I've ever come across in the Realms, but it led me to create Ashok, a protagonist that I'm in love with, and I hope my readers will love him too.
It's been a tradition ever since the release of my first novel to celebrate with a themed contest. Last time it was movie quotes, and this year the theme is music. I listened to a lot of music while writing Unbroken Chain, but music has always been a part of my writing experience. The right battle music inspires a blood-pumping fight scene, and a well-placed ballad can open up unexpected windows into a character's emotions. And let's face it, in life, don't we all wish we had our own theme music we could call up when we needed it most?
In the spirit of that, my contest is this: I want to know your theme song. To enter, just send me an email at jaleigh_onyxv@yahoo.com with your name and what song best represents you. The contest will be open from now until July 6, 2010, at which time I will put all the entries into Jaleigh's Magical Gardening Hat and draw two winners. The first place winner will receive a signed copy of Unbroken Chain and an itunes gift certificate. The second place winner will receive a signed copy of Unbroken Chain. As with all previous contests, the theme is just for fun, so if you don't want to tell me your theme song, just send me your name and you'll be entered in the drawing. And if you aren't one of the winners but are still interested in a signed copy of Unbroken Chain or any of my other novels, you can visit my website at jaleighjohnson.com for details on how to get a signed bookplate.
Remember, the deadline to enter is July 6, 2010. Good luck!

I applaud your musically-inclined nature Jaleigh. 'Tis a passion I also share.
However, I must ask whether this contest is open to those scribes who reside outside the United States? If so, and in the interest of joint passions, I will seek to participate in your contest. Though, I should warn you now, that I'm primarily a classical/baroque music fan, so expect my theme song to be chosen from among a rather eclectic mix. I'm assuming that's okay?

The answer is yes to both questions, Sage. I will absolutely ship the prizes outside the U.S. and if you tell me your theme song is classical/baroque or It's a Small World After All, I won't judge. |

Err, the contest is you offer a theme song. The winner - wins.
You can offer "Eye of the Tiger" or any other title that you believe works. |

Yeah, I understood the contest. I was just curious how Jaliegh would answer her own question. |

Let me tell you... The Lady K found this particularly amusing. |

Hmmm...see, the thing is, it depends on my mood and it changes as I change. When I'm feeling mellow or happy-go-lucky, it's Extraordinary Machine by Fiona Apple. When I'm introspective, it's Moon River--the movie recording sung by Audrey Hepburn. When someone's being ridiculously rude to me, the Mortal Kombat theme runs through my head and I'm imagining my own personal finishing move. (You're probably going to be sorry you asked by the end of this, heh). When it's time to saddle up in real life (but most of the time it's in a D&D game), it's Ballroom Blitz by Sweet. When I'm enraged, anything by Linkin Park will do. When I'm just plain sad or been disappointed in love, almost anything by Stevie Nicks will do, but especially Crystal. And if something is just completely indescribable, or if I had to narrow it down to one tune, it's Champagne Supernova by Oasis. Most of these songs are not even my favorite songs, though they're all good in their own right. But at one time or another in my life, they've represented me. |

Many thanks to all who participated in the contest.
Note to all entrants: Please visit my blog to see if you are one of the winners and if so to receive instructions on how to claim your prizes. I've unfortunately had some major computer issues come up in the last 24 hours, which prevent me from contacting the winners directly at this time. Hopefully these will be resolved soon, and I apologize for the inconvenience.
Again, thanks to all who entered!
