So it was several years ago that I noted I had most of the Forgotten Realms stuff, and decided to get the rest. I looked around for a list, and found this site, which I've since made great use of, and linked many other people to.
But there was one thing on that list I couldn't locate... What is the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Anyway? I've been searching for that since 2003 or 2004, and never managed to find it. I've got a saved search for it on eBay, but it has never popped up.
Which meant I was very surprised, today, when I opened a package from eBay and discovered that exact item in my hands. I was so puzzled I had to go to eBay to look at the auctions I'd won... And it was this one: TSR D&D Dungeons Dragons FORGOTTEN REALMS MAP POSTER. I bought it because it was a map I didn't recognize -- and since I've got duplicates of several FR maps, it wouldn't have bothered me if this was another duplicate.
I had no idea I had just won something I've been looking for for several years!

Very cool... I don't recall ever seeing that map, but I do remember having a product called the "Forgotten Realms Conspectus" at one point... mid-2E era... no idea what happened to it, or even if it's still on my shelves of pre-3E stuff, sandwiched neatly between other products whose identities I can't determine except by pulling them out... and I'm 200 miles away from them and so can't do that just now. |
Playing in the Realms since the Old Grey Box (1987)... and *still* having fun with material published before 2008, despite the NDA'd lore.
If it's comparable in power with non-magical abilities, it's not magic. |

I got the Conspectus with my copy of Dragon 228.

I think my first copy of the Conspectus was in some boxed set, but it's been quite some time, so I could be mistaken. |

Congrats! I too made a somewhat lucky find recently when I found a copy of the Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide for Star Wars Saga Edition sitting on the shelf amongst 5 or 6 newer Saga books in a bookstore. It has been OOP for some time and is the rarest of the Saga books, regularly going for $100+ on Ebay. |

Thats one of my favorite Saga books.
I am glad I bought them at release, some of those books are getting expensive. |

I just got my hands on an extra copy of the 3e FRCS. Too bad you live in the US, or else I could have send you one of my maps. |

The map is torn at several places and not in a very good condition. I used it alot the last couple of years and some of the players in my group weren't careful enough. I'm not sure if I really want to part with it yet because having a spare map is always useful. I'll have to think about it. |

Very nice! A similar thing happened with me about a year ago. I won a 'job-lot' of Planescape supplements on Ebay and when it came it included 'Uncaged: Faces of Sigil' which i'd been after for a while. Looking back on the listing, the book was in the photo but not the text. It's a great book too.
I'd never heard of 'What is the Forgotten Realms campaign setting anyway?' before. Speaking of stuff i've never heard off - and without wishing to hijack a thread for my own neferious ends - does anyone know anything about these two:
'Complete guide to poisons of the Realms.' 'Guide to herbs for RPG's - Abundant Faerun'
Now, I'm used to seeing mention or even occasional listings for one-off items but I'd never heard of these until I stumbled over them at Nobleknight where they are both listed as 'sold out'. Does any one know the dark of them? They both look quite interesting.
Anyways, the sun is shining, work will be finished in a couple of hours and I should hopefully have a big box of goodies from Nobleknight awaiting me at home. I love the spring! |

Lucky indeed. IIRC, that map was a vendor-only promo item that came out around the end of 2nd Ed. I've been keeping an eye out on ebay for years trying to snag one. Figures I'd miss it when one popped up. Oh well, back to the hunt. |

Well, it wasn't listed by title, like I said -- so it would have been easy to miss. |

I've never heard of them or seen references to them. I'm inclined to think they weren't actual TSR/WotC products, but I lack the information to state that as fact. |

I had my books and maps in separate locations, so I lost the books in the fire, and not the maps. That meant when replacing the books, I wound up with a lot of extra maps. I've got extras of the Undermountain maps, the maps from FRCS editions 1-3, all of the Waterdeep maps (including the City System ones) and some others. I like having extras, too. |

I'm thinking they're both fan-supplements, as I've seen them available for free download on many AD&D netbook sites. Why they're indicated at nobleknight.com, I've no idea... because these resources aren't listed on any of the official FR product lists that I have. |

Well, that chimes with what I thought they probably were. Nobleknight does seem to have several items of odd heritage listed - 'One comes, unheralded, to Zirta' and 'Chi's adventures with the Sisterhood of the House of the Midnight Rose' are two others that caught my attention. Although the first one seems to have been a Gencon handout the other is described as a 'well done amateur adventure publication.'
There are a couple of others but these too had by far the best titles. I'd love to have a look at Chi's adventures because of the title alone! |

Congrats on the find Wooly. I think I have that one, but I would have to look through my collection to find it. I do recall seeing that particular map however. I am only missing a few items to complete my FR collection (some of the obscure items and 2 expensive Bloodstone items) |

Aye, the story was originally given away in chapbook form at a GenCon, and then later reprinted in The Best of the Realms Vol. 2: The Stories of Ed Greenwood. |

For Wooly, Jakk and anyone else wondering about the history of this item, it was sent in bulk to brick & mortar hobby shops to be handed out to current and potential RPG players. It was also given out at TSR's Gen Con booth later that same year. I'll have to check my copies, but I believe that it came out a year or two after the various TSR conspectuses and trivia contest form.
If it is permitted by the Powers here at Candlekeep, I'll like to offer to give my only spare copy to anyone who's interested.
However, I MUST warn you ahead of time that it's in very poor condition. It's split along several of the folds and has noticable creases on the corners. Personally, it's nothing I'd ever put up on E-bay due to it's condition.
Contact me via PM if your willing to pay postage from Michigan, USA to your location in order to get poor, but still useable copy of the map that Wooly search so long and hard for. |
