Hi all,
I'm planning on writing a story about one of my playing characters. He was born in Ironspur, Damara, and I want to start his story from his birth.

I want to stay as close as possible to what was already written, and use the history of damara, vaasa as well as Mithral Halls (since my character participates in the defeat of shimergloom)

Mithral halls, there's plenty of written material to be found, however I can't find much to read about Damara and Vaasa (only a couple of references in the grand history of the realms). Also I don't know if anything was written about Ironspur (if there is nothing, then I can freely create my own Ironspur community, which would be just great)

so my question is basically: where can I read more about vaasa, damara and Ironspur :D

thanks

You might want to search for information on the Bloodstone Lands. The phrase refers to the region between the Great Glacier and Impiltur, particularly the two states of Vaasa and Damara. There is even a sourcebook by this name, which will provide much information on both states.

Furthermore there was some info on Damara and Vaasa in Bob Salvatores Sellswords-Trilogy. However, only book 2 -Promise of the Witch King- and 3 -Road of the Patriach- take place in the Bloodstone Lands, as book 1 -Servant of the Shard- was originally part of the Drizzt-Saga and tells a story elsewhere (IIRC in Calimshan).

Aside from that you will find further info in the original adventure modules which introduced this region - the BATTLE SYSTEM Bloodstone Trilogy (Bloodstone Pass, Mines of Bloodstone, Bloodstone Wars).

Good Luck,

Ergdusch

I just quickly looked through my copy of theBloodstone Lands sourcebook and cound not find any detailed info on Ironspur other than that it is one of three major dwarven settlements in the Galenas Mountains. So you might be rather free in your writing.

FR9 The Bloodstone Lands has quite a few scattered references to Ironspur which contribute something of a composite picture. FR11 Dwarves Deep also notes 'Dwarven rule under High Iron Duke Murnaros (LN F11); 3,890 dwarves (out of 4,700, the rest human)' (as of 1358 DR or thereabouts). This ain't my area, though.

There's notable 3e sources for info on Damara and Vaasa as well:- Races of Faerûn, Lost Empires of Faerûn, and Dragons of Faerûn. Oh, and there's a few choice tidbits in Grand History of the Realms also.

Do an automated search here on Candlekeep and you get a hit on a lot of scrolls/threads. I forget the member's name, but there is one forum member who has compiled an extensive list on all Bloodstone-related publications.

thanks a lot for all your answers. That should keep me going quite well. Happy to see I'm free to describe Ironspur, makes it a lot easier for me :D

edit:
I found what is supposed to be a pdf on damara and vaasa here: http://www.candlekeep.com/campaign/nj_main.htm

however it is rather strange, when I unzip the file (eg: blstone2.zip) I get a blstone2.zip.cpgz and when I try to unzip that file, i get a blstone2.zip (containing itself a blstone2.zip.cpgz etc.)

So I never get to the pdf :-(

Does anyone know of this issue, and how to solve it? Or even better, if you can link me the actual unzipped pdf that would be great

thank you

Now look at that! I did not even know that the 3rd Ed. picked up on anything of that remote part of the Realms at all (aside from Bob's novels, that is).

So, learned something new this day already!

I am missing one or two of these. If you plan to buy them, be ready to $pend some money.

Faraer posted the 2ed population (which is what i use in my campaign) but...

please note that Ironspur's population is drastically reduced (and no canonical reason given) from 2ed FR11 Dwarves Deep (p61) to 3ed FRCS (p107)

depending on your campaign's timeline you may have to come up with the reason

all listings of Ironspur compiled from all FR products:

c. Ironspur [population 1000, shield dwarves] (FRCS p107) (FR11 p61) *see errata

26. High Iron Duke Murnaros [fighter 11] – leader of Ironspur (FR11 p61)
a. Dwarven clan in Ironspur (FR9 p20)

67. Thunkers (FR9 p57)
d. Have bounties on their heads by Friar Dugald and the Dwarves of Ironspur (FR9 p57)

16. The High Walk (FR9 p34)
a. Difficult pass between Palishchuk and Ironspur (FR9 p34)
b. Average of one-in-ten don’t survive the trip (FR9 p34)
c. No wagons can be used and horses have a hard time (FR9 p34)

3. Shield Dwarves (FRCS p13) (RoF p17) (FR9 p7,20,54) (H2 p12)
a. 880 dwarves live in Bloodstone Village (FR11 p61)
b. 3,890 live around Ironspur (FR9 p20) (FR11 p61) *see errata
c. 2,020 live in Praka (FR11 p61)
d. 2,100 live in Trailsend [craftsmen] (FR11 p61) (FR9 p20)
e. 210 live in Tomrav (FR11 p61)
f. 360 live in Virdin (FR11 p61)
g. Speak Galenan dialect of dwarven, strongly influenced by human Damaran (RoF p18) Dwarven automatic languages [Galena Mountains]: Damaran, Dwarven; Bonus: Chondathan, Giant, Goblin, Orc, Undercommon (PGtF p19)
h. Dwarven regional feats [Galena Mountains]: Dauntless, Foe Hunter, Stoneshaper, Thunder Twin, Tireless (PGtF p19)
i. Claim to be first settlers in the Bloodstone Lands, but acknowledge that the Monks of the Monastery of the Yellow Rose and the Tribe of the White Worm were already there (FR9 p20)
j. 75% to 25% split male to female in the Oriothar clan (H2 p12)

6. Palischuk [population 9,211] [half-orc (gray)] (PotWK p59,62) (FRCS p110) (RoF p68) (FR9 p21,28-29) (D:WA p8) (PotWK p59,62) (RotP 43,47,175-177)
a. Once grand fortress in ruins rebuilt by a tribe of nearly ten thousand half-orcs (RoF p68) (FR9 p29) (FRCS p110)
b. Good trading relations with Ironspur dwarves and Bloodstone Pass and Darmshall humans (FR9 p21,29) (FRCS p110)
