What was Gromph (sp?) using to allow himself to see through his familiars eyes when he was struck blind in thw WotSQ series, or was this merely poetic license, or perhaps a researched spell that if characteristically his? Anyone know or have an idea. I want to say that in 2nd that a wizard could use his familiars eyes, but in 3rd the familiar discription explicetly says no.

I don't believe that it says that he was using anything, at all: quote: Gromph closed his eyes. It took only a moment to locate Kyorli. Pouring his awareness into his familiar, Gromph could feel legs swiftly running and whiskers twitching as they sniffed the stone across which the rat was running.
[...]
Gromph was able, with a bit of concentration, to see through the rat's eyes. [...]
Returning his awareness to his own body, Gromph strode with confidence to the balcony. (Extinction, C18)

That being said, is it reasonable to believe that a pc could do this? Is there something that a character must do? Or was this merely artistic licence, and there is not a in game way to pull this off? |

I'd assume it was artistic license.
That said, I'm usre it would be possible to devise a spell to do that. |

According to the 3rd Edition PHB, wizards can have an empathic link with their familiars as a matter of course, but this doesn't allow them to see through their eyes. That said, I'd have thought that a spell allowing a wizard to see/hear/otherwise experience what his familiar is seeing/hearing/otherwise experiencing would be common enough for Smedman not to have to mention it.
But perhaps I'm wrong on that score...

HELLo!
Actually, if one is of high enough caster level (13+), a PC can scry on his familiar. As described here: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Familiar I reckon it was something similar in this case, with a bit of poetic license added for flavour.
