Hey all,
Since Pathfinder and FantasyCraft have both come out, I'm working on converting Expedition to the Demonweb Pits into City of the Spider queen as a themed adventure path. Yes, I'm starting this whole thing at level 9, and will likely run both adventures in both systems. Since CotSQ is in Daggerdale, I'm considering using southern Daggerdale, through the mountain pass, north of Tilverton for the Expedition (Slated for 1371 DR).

Some of the details (such as the first scripted encounter) will feature priests of Kiransalee, rather than Lolth. This will hint at the Silence of Lolth that happens in 1372 (and begins the process of foreshadowing for CotSQ). The angle I'll be working is that there is a merchant whose goods keep getting raided by drow. These drow are looking for something to prevent Lolth's final attempt at an abyssal alliance. Then it moves into Sigil and beyond, which keeps the PC's occupied while other events unfold on Toril.

When I get to CotSQ (which I'll be converting as well), the players will be a much more appropriate level (IMO) to begin the adventure and not get slaughtered. They'll have experience in fighting Drow, and they'll be able to withstand some of the bruatl punishment coming their way from the NON-spider-kissers.

Has anyone else done this? How did it turn out?

I have some notes set up with how to run this. I'm starting the PC's in Tilverton (pre-destruction), and we'll see how it goes. I'm going to interweave some of the Kiransalean faiths' movers and shakers as part of foreshadowing for the City. We'll see how it goes.

The initial encounter for Expedition will be north out of tilverton, through the Shadow Gap towards Daggerdale. From there, the "branches" that I wrote here at the keep will help me with how Yggdrasil should act for the Realms. (Thankfully the Abyss is pretty simple). We'll see where everything goes from there.

A note: This is being run as a campaign on Paizo's boards. (expedition to the demonweb pits (and possibly more), with myself as the DM). Any players of mine looking here should probably look away.
First encounter of the campaign, something creepy. Something non-combative (somewhat).
So the PC's find themselves in the Shadow Gap, their second day there, and run across something bad. A group of slaughtered Drow Elves, lying near a rather large summoning circle (Read: Modified Gate Spell). The drow on the ground have all been branded with markings of heretics, and free use of a hot iron branding mark from the priests of Lolth. These Drow, it seems, are not demon worshippers.

As to the circle itself... Spoilered:
I figure that the circle itself is a twisted high magic ritual, allowing allied demons to gate into the prime material plane, as well as allowing Drow from Maermydra to "pop" into the area and slaughter the heathens. I'm picturing some sort of holy war within the Drow, something akin to the War of the Spider Queen series, but not exactly. The two factions shown on this circle are the Lolth-worshippers and worshippers of Kiransallee (although the PC's don't know about the latter, as they are all stripped bare). This ties into the Demonweb nicely (and sets up some fiendish allies or enemies for later)

I like the idea of linking both those adventures together.

Slight previw, mechanics:
First combat encounter:
Big baddie, overall EL is 2 above the party, but my party has a larger number of combatants. This will make this a much easier combat than what it looks like on paper. Best part is, that there are summons, which don't count towards the overall CR.

Big baddie is on the opposite side of the massacre they just saw. Whereas the massacre they saw slaughtered a lot of this person's faction, she's running on fumes.

Overall breakdown: Large, Tough (ogre) Undead, Draegloth (that has gone rogue, not loyal to Lolth), Priestess of Kiransallee, A few Drow to flavor, and then they're done. This is meant to show how tough an encounter can be, but will have some visual aids. I'm hoping that they thoroughly enjoy this encounter, as this will likely be the hardest encounter for them for a bit.

Not soon after this, they will end up in Sigil, where the real campaign begins (thankfully, by defeating the drow that they defeat getting to Sigil, they complete the first part of their quest as well, which should make them happy).
