Alright, just wondering if anyone happens to know a good place to set a rather expansive kobold lair. Seems simple enough i know, but i just wanted to see if anywhere in particuler stands out.
Anyway, Peace!

In his 2E Haunted Halls of Eveningstar module, Ed mentions the existence of a sizable kobold lair above the haunted halls but does not flesh it out. |

The Ice Lakes region north of Luskan is long known to have a sizable kobold population. There's also Maiden's Tomb Tor near Waterdeep. Ed did a Dragon article on kobolds a long, long time ago which outlined a few kobold haunts. Someone like Sage or Wooly will be along directly to point you to the issue number.

Thing with kobolds is, they're kind of convenient-sized, so basically anywhere that's hilly or mountaineous. However, it cannot be so close to civilisation that the local authorities would have sent in an army.
It very much depends on where you want to place the adventure. If it is sizeable, I will assume that you want the adventurers to return to some convenient base to re-supply. Here's a couple of suggestions (with "base" added in brackets):
* The Crags (Mirabar, Longsaddle); possible tie-in to Gauntlgrym; * The southern Sword Mountains (Waterdeep, Amphail, Rassalantar) - possible tie-in with some of the abandoned gnome-holds; * The Sword Hills (Daggerford - my favorite all-purpose adventurers' base of all time) * The Sunset Mountains (north) (Corm Orp, Hill's Edge) - possible interference run by the Zhentarim from Darkhold (who might supply the Kobs with weapons and some goodies they would not normally have) * The Sunset Mountains (south) (Asbravn, Iriaebor) - same Zhentarim intervention possible. * The Stonelands or the eastern Storm Horns (Arabel, Tilverton before it was blown up) - 'cause that's were all the gobs and kobs go; * Desertsmouth Mountains (Tilverton, Shadowdale, Daggerdale) - interference from Cormyr patrols, Zhentarim patrols, dwarves of Tethyamar, plus the gnome village of Stormpenhauder in the Spiderhaunt Forest (from the Randall Morn trilogy in 2nd edition) * Eastern Dragonspine Mountains (I think, BTW, that FRC1-Ruins of Adventure placed a kobold lair in that area; maybe you can substitute is, or make them "cousins".
And that's just north and west of the Sea of Fallen Stars. |

Hmmm... Might that be "Elminster's Notes: Kobold Commotions" in Dragon #216? |

Dragon 216.
Added to the growing list of old school Dragon mags, I need to get. |

I also seem to remember there being quite a few kobolts in the mountains of Turmish. Enough for them to have been a major threat at times in history. What little lore there is on the subject should be in the old 2ed. Vilhon Reach source book. |
