just been readin through the sea devils eye and theres a part where pacys is told of iakhovas past.in the tale it mentions the realms as being millions of years old.i always thought the realms was only a few hundred thousand years old.

The realms, as a civilisation, or civilisations, being millions of years old, would be very unlikely. He must have been speaking in geological years about the planet. That would be more likely.
I find it hard to believe that evolved beings living millions of years would still make war with swords and sticks. The first humans started thinking abuot 32 ooo years ago on earth. Compare that to millions of years of evolution and i think it's unlikely that the realms would still be in the middle ages.
I know we can explain about everything with magic but that is stretching it a bit for my taste.

One of the "theories" I've outlined in my Realms, suggests that for as long as there's been a Chauntea-like entity in Realmspace, there has been the Realms.
Building on the Ed-lore that states "Chauntea IS the land and all of its natural processes," I've had both sages and loremasters speculate that the origins of Chauntea [and any predecessor-deities in that position] and the origins of Toril are intimately connected.
It's just one of many suggestions I've toyed around with. Though I suspect Ed may have some thoughts on this. You might consider asking him about it as well.

| Ed said that sages speculate that it is around 70 000 years old, whether that's just their ignorance, I like it, it makes Toril unique, and it adds to the importance of the creator races days. Otherwise there will be novels claiming that their monsters are the oldest (oozes, aboleths, plants whatever) as it's some kind of competition. |
